Durham now 5/30

Somerset 7/57. How long's McKerr need to qualify for England? Surrey not quite going the full Hampshire but not far off.
In 2016 McKerr was selected for SAs u19 CWC squad and a week before the tournament CSA found out he signed a deal with Surrey so replaced him in the squad.

So is it 4 or 5 years ? 2020 or 2021

Depends if he was 18 yet when he moved to the UK or not. If he was it's seven years, otherwise four.

Just had a look. It makes sense that he signed it when he was about 18. So 2020 it is. Tom Curran was similar.
According to Cricinfo it's 2023, he moved when he was just past 18.

I know I'll cop some flack, possibly quite a lot, for saying this, and it's been said before but I was thinking that with the current county schedule and pitches it must be hard for any genuine quick bowler growing up in England (who hasn't been messed up by Loughborough) to compete against guys who got to grow up on hard overseas pitches that actually favour that style. Hence they've no hope of gaining experience at first class level and competing with either more experienced overseas / ineligible imported quicks that feature conspicuously in say, Hampshire, or medium pacers who thrive on the damper softer pitches earlier in the season (and 2nd XI is probably too low a standard and worse pitches, so it's trite and useless to say 'bowl better'). That said the last world class genuine quick of any permanence that England produced was Willis, so that's not root the problem by a long shot. Can't help though.

Durham 8/58, might just scrape past their first innings score. I see Dexter only conceded 1 run in his first innings spell.

Speaking of such signings, I see Parnell's gone to Worcs. Whenever I've seen him bowling he's bowled rubbish, even when he's bowled well.

It's not an unreasonable comment at all. And of course it's made even worse by scheduling so many of the CC games at the book ends of the season.

Before today, Durham's lowest total in first-class cricket was 67. Now it's only their third-lowest, with Leicestershire having bowled them out for 61 and 66 to win by an innings and 194 runs.

How frustrating would it be if he didn't sign it before 18 which means 3 extra years.

Born Jan 19 1998 and the tournament started 22 Jan 2016 - So he is 18 on 19 Jan 2016. Surely he signed it before he turned 18 from that.

Yeah, know what you mean. Someone like McKerr at 6ft6 with decent pace is lucky he is probably at one of the better cricket wickets at The Oval. Especially learning all his cricket in Joburg at St Johns School and Wanderers which is our quickest and most bouncy wicket.

Can't get in to the article because of the paywall but The Times did an article on this batch of youngsters at Surrey before the season started.

Clarke currently 74* off 108
Harmer in with a shout of chasing down Bailey and Onions for leading wicket-taker I imagine

Reval loving life at Yorkshire - scores of 15, 8, 10 , 8 & 9
His test average continues to drop and will get to a more suitable average for his capabilities before he will have to be replaced imo

A lot of serious cricket talent in that photo - and that's before Jamie Smith signed.........

I've had the pleasure of umpiring most of them.

Unless your name is Williamson it is pointless Yorkshire wasting money on an overseas player as they are all crap.

Fed up with Morgan now. Wish he would go and be a journeyman t20 player. Has held our mdsx team back for years.
Trouble is he trying to come back to county cricket now as he's not getting signed in the Ipl, but his performances for us in red and white ball formats have been poor.
Taken your quote from the other thread Tom Flint because I've wanted to talk about Middlesex recently.

Can't believe they actually played him in the championship. Seems a right mess now at Middlesex. Compton sitting out the last year of his contract. Finn woeful. Helm gone backwards. Simpson dropped. Continue to be terrible in white ball cricket even if they look like they a reasonable side on paper.

I guess only consolation is the blooding of the youngsters and in a year or two they'll probably rebound back up with a better group of players and having got rid of some of the deadwood.

Why isn't Compton in the side? Is he available? He made good FC runs in SL.

Compton hasn't performed for mdsx since being dropped by England. I think it's more a case of a few senior players having a one off great year all in the same season when we won the cc. I never truly thought likes of gubbins rayner malan were great players who were heading for England call ups just average to good county players. That year they all had their best seasons they will probably ever have and we won the league because of it. The last 2 seasons they are back to playing at their normal standard and we are back to being an also ran. With trj who is genuinely a top player being out, no decent spinner and out overseas in Cartwright being a huge failure we just haven't had the quality to win enough games. If wasn't for our decent county level seamers bailing us out time and again we could have finished in the bottom 3.
Simpson was a bit of a scapegoat he's a good keeper and made so many game saving and winning knocks at 6 the last 3 years. Yet a couple bad games and he's in the 2s whereas Morgan returns after 7 years of not wanting to play and lasts 6 games averaging 10 before he is left out

On the bright side Max Holden scored his first century (I think) this round & Ethan Bamber continues to look at home.

Kent are promoted from division 2. Their bowling is a bit ****. Matt Henry has performed minor miracles. Zak Crawley just scored his first century and with Denly, Bell-Drummond, Dickson, Kuhn, Billings the batting looks ok but in the top division there will be tougher challenges.

Yes bamber holden are good prospects and our seamers are still div 1 standard. We need to add a spinner and top class overseas who will be able to play all season to be contenders to go up.

I'm confused why Hants would sign Aneurin Donald and then have him as the sub-wicketkeeper as anything other than a joke
