Good grief, there's a round of county matches starting today. Maybe another chance for Surrey's batch of teenagers to shine?

EDIT
I only just realised that Dale Steyn is playing for Hampshire. This may be tougher than I thought.

Burns doing himself no harm today.

I wish Hampshire would just play the team that they have been using in the one day cup though (with minor alterations for different format), only a couple of Kolpaks and a load of young players. Would probably be relegated but they could be relegated with this side as well.

Burns is 109 not out at stumps. Get this guy in the England team...I'd have Foakes in there too (68 not out at stumps)

Both have great FC career records and should be hacked off England haven't picked them yet in test cricket

You know, Phillip Hughes in 09 has to have been the last young Australian bat who actually consistently tore it up like Renshaw at County.

Not counting the traitor filth who are eligible for England

Burns will get his chance, especially once Cook calls it a day. Although his overall FC average (low 40s) isn't special for someone playing his home matches at The Oval, I would think it's considerably higher over the last couple of seasons. Tougher for Foakes unless Bairstow shows sign of being a genuine top 5 test batsman instead of keeping wicket, and at present he isn't doing that.

Burns must be well ahead of Hameed now - I watched his innings yesterday - the fact that you just have one static camera helps focus you on the batsman and I'm afraid he doesn't now look like the young man who batted so well in India

An England Lions squad was chosen for a limited overs tri-series with India/Windies

Nick Gubbins (Middlesex)
Tom Kohler-Cadmore (Yorkshire)
Sam Hain (Warwickshire)
Liam Livingstone (Lancashire)
Steve Mullaney (c) (Notts)
Ben Foakes (Essex)
Liam Dawson (Hampshire)
Sam Curran (Surrey)
Craig Overton (Somerset)
Matthew Parkinson (Lancashire)
Matthew Fisher (Yorkshire)
Reece Topley (Hampshire)
Tom Helm (Middlesex)

A real interesting mix for selection. Obviously rewarding form and looking to the future (particularly with the seamers). A couple of limited overs specialists in Cadmore and Topley. Don't think COverton has had the best of seasons.

Hameed barely looks a county player nowadays. It's a real shame.

Burns is a better player than the likes of Stoneman and Jennings (and Hameed)

What's he doing wrong now?
Hameed was really good for England in the 3 games he played and I think England dropping him (not putting him straight back into the team after injury) may have knocked his confidence hugely at such a young age. If you check his first class average it has slide all the way to 33.83 now and is on the slide still. His test average looks nice though at 43.8 albeit only 3 test matches played.

Hameed seems to have fallen away badly, looks like a rabbit in the headlights from what I have seen of him recently. Contrast that to Matt Renshaw, he had a real slump that led to him being dropped before the Ashes, but has came back strongly with runs first for Queensland and now for Somerset.

He still shapes like the same batsman I saw bat almost all day at Lord's a couple of years back against Middlesex, but the impression of solidity is gone now.

I can't see a technical problem (not that I am a coach anyway) so hoping the problem is between his ears and that one day he'll get there again
