**Official** Chappell-Hadlee Series

So, when does this Chappell-Hadlee thing get underway? Should be fairly interesting with a couple of ours having a well-earned rest. Can't see the Kiwis being much of a challenge though.
Oh, I dunno - I reckon our lads might bring their A-game. McMillan's due for a couple of big scores, and the short boundaries should suit him.

Phil Jaques to shine with the bat IMO. Mitchell Johnson and Cameron White to impress with the ball and take the Aussies home.

Haha, maybe they'll steal one somewhere, but by the last game, the Kiwis suspect fitness will be their undoing, and softies like Bond, Vettori and Oram will inevitably miss out, and we'll finish them off.

BTW, I loved McMillan's reaction when he got his century and McCullum had to tell him. That was a really cool innings, and IMO a fantastic game the other night. I don't generally like games where both sides score 300+ comfortably, but there was something about the contest the other night, and the Kiwis stepping up from 4/40 (or whatever it was). Hayden's innings was a cracker, as was Macca's, and I really admired Bracken's efforts too, he can be quite amazing in these big total games.

I actually had a sense of confidence when we were about 90/4 - I had nothing to base it on though, even if Fulton was striking it quite nicely. Had to meet a mate in town for a couple of beers, and while there were only 10 people in the pub when the winning runs were scored, you could have sworn there wrere 50+ in there for all the noise that we made. The whole country is buzzing about that win - and I can't exactly put my finger on why that is, considering the series was already decided.

I liked McCullum's wry look as Gillespie knocked one of the Aussies back down the ground.

Just a fantastic game. I would have comfortably won the Greiggy myself if I'd been able to get online - I gave the Kiwis no chance. At the start of the innings I was just sure it couldn't happen again - and then with 4 of them down in under 10 overs I was satisfied it was game over. Had in mind to say I'd eat Richard if the Kiwis got home, too.

Absolutely. I have seen Australia have busier seasons than this and still win and at those times these words never cropped up. Then, all of a sudden, they are challenged by Bangladesh in a test and its "we have had a hectic season" and now they get whitewashed and again its "we have had a hectic season". I wonder if Gilly would have said this had Australia won 3-0.
I remember Gilly coming out and saying "we're tired" during the India vs. Australia test series back in 2003/04. Not sure what they were tired from, other than Laxman and Dravid keeping them out in the field all day. That was the start of the summer (not including Zimbabwe test series).

I think gilly's comments were really stupid, especially since we had already lost the series when he came up with these comments, it would have been a lot better if he would have said these things before the Chappell-Hadlee series started.

If he's so tired maybe he needs to be dropped (yeah I know won't happen) and learn to appreciate the honour of being asked to play for one's country a bit more. I'm sure Johnson and co were up for a crack at the series and some gametime.

I also agree, McCullum's look after Gillespie smacked that final shot off Watson for that over was the coolest ever! They replayed that quite a bit.

Yeah I honestly don't think we'd miss Gilly all that much in ODI's. Especially with Haddin as the replacement. I think I'm right in saying that, since the start of the Champion's Trophy, Gilchrist has passed 30 just twice in ODI's.

He did get a couple of jaffas from Plunkett in that time tho, Watson and Hayden to open the batting and Gilchrist to in lower down when the ball isn't swinging much... maybe.

I find Geoff Lawson's views in this article interesting.

"If Stuart Clark had played in New Zealand the chances are we would have won all three games."

Would he have taken all ten wickets in Wellington then?

Of course not, silly billy. He would have been promoted to 4 and would have smacked an unbeaten century off 62 balls. :p
