Just returned from Etihad, and my thoughts on the game.
I had the feeling the Sydney Sixers were a good twenty runs short at the end of their innings. It was never an easy pitch for scoring a run off every delivery, however the Sixers middle order simply didn't show enough flair to attempt to clear the short boundaries. Andrew McDonald for the Renegades had the exact same problem with struggling to work the spinners until he worked out that hitting the ball over the fence was the best approach.
The Sixers have some significant issues with the batting order with Bravo and Lumb a poor opening combination and the likes of Smith quite incapable at scoring at much more than a run-a-ball. Maddinson is probably the only batsman I would back to score a large total.
The Renegades bowling wasn't too flash other than Afridi and Maxwell being allowed to bowl tight spells, and a good display of changes of pace by Harwood. Shaun Tait must surely be dropped. BBL economy rate of above 10, and limited wickets to justify a spot. Luckily for the Renegades it looks like Dirk Nannes is finding some form now.
Great chase in the end by the Renegades after Smith, Dom and MacGill put the brakes on. I'm not sure what the record for the most number of 6's in an innings without hitting a 4 is, however Andrew McDonald with 7 must sure be close. On a larger ground, a couple of those shots would have been caught, however it was a great performance by McDonald to turn a pretty dire innings around (I believe he was on 11 off 19 deliveries at one stage).
The last gripe I had with the evening was again the rather substandard fielding displayed. I cannot recall any easy chances going down this evening, however the enthusiasm in the field is really lacking. I watched Razzaq in the deep and I don't believe he backed up the stumps once all evening, it's only a small thing, however the lack of professionalism in fielding standards has really shone throughout the BBL.
