Do any of the grounds have songs to play between overs that aren't 25+ years old??! Perhaps we could give them suggestions on more recent songs to play than La Bamba and You're The Voice.
Fits the demographic of many of the players tbf.

Quite enjoying watching these games on TV. Couple of observations:

- By stretching it out into February, it will become tiresome. Less is more

- Australians will never go for the Liz Hurley, famous team ambassador people. Like flying Kardashian out for the Melbourne Cup, it's just cheesy and cheap

- Silly seeing Adelaide play in Blue last night, and Melbourne play in red. It just jarred.

- Loving Warner's passion and chutzpah

Would it be safe to select Daniel Christian and Mitchell Starc for Fantasy round 2? When is the test squad announced?

Anyone making major fantasy team changes?

Keeping my squad unchanged for one more game, switch in captain from Finch to Maxwell.

STEVE SMITH IS GONNA BE CAPTAIN

No not in my fantasy team. Like in real life.

Wade out for Nev, obv. Elsewhere Dirk Nannes seriously blew in his match. Got killed in the Champs League too. Might ditch him. Botha looks decent a switch. Anyone know whether he'll be going home midway through? SA season obviously underway so uh. You've got to 7pm to make changes.

The teams are mixed, the crowds underwhelming, inter-state rivalries absent, and yet, the BBL has generated a record TV audience in its opening round
Yeah, called it. It's really all it needs to survive IMO - crowds of at least 10k to maintain a decent atmosphere and big, big viewership. The better its ratings for the next couple of years, the more interested other networks will become in the product and the more the next TV deal will go for. This is where it's going to make its money. The way money is filtered through to the states may need to be tinkered a little if it's going to be a TV-deal-based financial structure as I don't think they get a lot of that at present but it's looking good at the moment.

They could cut state wages given they generate minimal revenue directly. It should put down rents for grounds also if the franchises start to pay their own way through gate takings.

ODD will suffer now I think, poor crowds and a weaker TV product.

Makes a lot of financial sense but would be terrible for cricket in this country IMO. It'd completely disincentivise developing a game that was good for Shield cricket if it wasn't good for T20 cricket as you'd cut your pay cheque in half. I think it's very important to make sure our best Shield players are paid well even if they aren't generating a lot of revenue. The states just need to get a lot more of the money directly IMO.

Why? Doesn't nearly all state money come from revenue generated by the national team? If that pie remained then there would still be big enough $$ for state cricketers.
