cbf watching that video, but which way does Prior advocate?
Takes it in front of the stumps. Believes it's quicker to swing it onto the stumps rather than take it in the gloves, have the gloves forced back a tiny bit and have to push into the stumps

He didn't say much of that actually.

Nah, ridiculously stupid. Doesn't make sense in theory and doesn't work in practice.

If I ever overheard a coach teach a young keeper to do that I would run over his dog.

The issue for mine is that it takes the direct hit out of it. Pretty sure that, in the main, if the ball isn't hitting the stumps then it is quicker; England cricket did some testing with it IIRC.

But it's a flawed theory in two parts.

1) As you say it takes out the direct hit, and that's the main part, but also;

2) As a keeper, your goal is to minimise the time the ball is in your gloves whilst re-directing/guiding the ball, because that's when most of the speed is taken off it. Most balls will go to the side of the stumps, not directly over, so you should have you body behind the stumps and your gloves to the side and then move them back. That way it will result in the least amount of time the ball will be in the gloves.

Was one of the things I discussed with Steve Rixon a few years back when Nixon was out here doing it. Only thing Rixon was good for itbt.

Top game, even with the rain. So glad I don't support the dirty Thunder.

Hooked up with Yatesy, just quietly.
