Before the challenger Sixers were paying 1.40 to win the bbl

I put $75 on being extremely confident the rain was coming

Honestly wish I bet $1000 now

A part of it is that cricket is far less in the summer zeitgeist and national conversation now that only 5 tests are on show on fta. The Big Bash just doesn't have the same gravitas as ten to twelve limited overs internationals. Even for the folks who do enjoy the BBL, most people aren't necessarily going to watch the majority of neutral games anyway.
Paywalling half the season - and the Saturday games to boot - is just an incomprehensible move that could well be disastrous. Real Rugby Australia areas there.

I've been thinking about my ideal BBL tournament and this is what I would do.

2 groups of 4.

The two grand finalists from the previous year are in different groups and they take turns drawing out the other 3 teams in their group.

Each team plays both home and away against the teams in their group. (6 games)
Teams play their other group just once (4 games)

6 plus 4 is 10 means 4 less games per team, quick maths.

Throughout the season there is the one table however 2 teams from each group progress PLUS the highest third placed team. It is almost impossible that the worst team from one group will finish 5th overall and miss out.

Then back to the old NRL Finals Series.

Week One

Qualification Final: 2nd vs 3rd
Elimination Final: 4th vs 5th
Bye: 1st
Round Two

Major Semi Final: 1st vs Winners of Qualification Final
Minor Semi Final: Losers of Qualification Final vs Winners of Elimination Final
Round Three

Preliminary Final: Losers of Major Semi Final vs Winners of Minor Semi Final
Bye: Winners of Major Semi Final
Round Four

Grand Final: Winners of Major Semi Final vs Winners of Preliminary Final

I did say earlier that you'd play home and away against your group, but I would actually like to see a few more double headers at the same venue. Where say one weekend the 4 teams from one group play in 2 double headers. Then the next weekend the other group would do the same. This is kinda (not really) like what they do in the WBBL

One issue with this is that the Sydney/Melbourne teams might only play againt each other once. But in some ways, it will be a good thing as that one game will be big.

Ah well, im flicking between Pak v Bang and NZ vs Ind

Heh. Nervous?
Nah wussed out and ended up betting twice that amount on the the stars at 1.95 coz I love maxi

If it doesn't get played to completion that bet gets refunded and i still win the sixers bet so all good

Edit - twice of 75 not 1000 lol

That's actually pretty amazing. Would have thought the amount of rain alone would have rendered the outfield completely waterlogged. I guess the soil is so dry underneath that it just went straight through.
