Again seeing no one bother to even try to pick the wrist-spinner, just playing it off the pitch. It just seems that they don't even try anymore. I faced Bowe in a game about a month ago, it's not that hard ffs

And that wicket is a direct result of not picking him. Tried to sweep a ball that was too quick and full to sweep because cbf bothering to watch that it was a sliding wrong-un

I think he has overdone the slow ball variations. He has fairly good wheels and bouncer. He could bowl full pace more often making his change ups less predictable.
He pinged Bert in a Futures game last year when he was on 98. Had to retire hurt with concussion. Said he’s got a really deceptive bouncer

Turner needs to be in the Aus ODI and T20 team. Too bad he doesn't bowl anymore (and chucks it when he does) or he'd be a shoe in

He necked Mad dog tonight. A couple more were called wides but gee they looked angry coming off the pitch.

Ha. Bravo with a late surge.

So Ash-gun Turner will be playing BBL while Spuds-comb will be stinking it up averaging 14 for the ODI series

Turner does seem to make a significant contribution in almost every Scorchers game I watch. Makes me wonder why he hasn't found favour with national selectors.

I think they're interested in Handscomb in ODIs for a couple of reasons:

1. Most of the younger bats absolutely suck at the sort of strike rotation you can need in the middle order of ODIs at times. They have a T20 game and a FC game, and their ODI/List A game is just to play the former mostly and revert to the latter in the event of a few wickets. Handscomb and a few of the older guys actually have a one day game.
2. It's great insurance to have one of your WC squad batsmen being a competent wicket keeper in the event of a temporary injury to your keeper; it means you don't have to use one of your only four reserve spots on a second one.

So if he can actually translate what he did in the JLT into the ODIs this season it'd help the squad out a lot more than if Turner played and did well IMO. And I say that as CW's original Turner fan. If he sucks here I think they'll move on pretty quickly though.

Yeah Finch did actually say that in an interview about the squad, particularly re. playing spin in the middle overs because a lot of teams seem to be targeting Aus with a lot of overs of spin. I don't think it makes the selection right though.

Excellent point about the keeping though.

Bloke is just wasting a spot in the Stars team, especially now that he isn't bowling. Not that his bowling was ever any good anyway
He isn't even the worst pure batsman in the team as it is. They also have Merlo. You'd replace him with someone much worse? How is that wasting a spot?

I was surprised to learn yesterday that he's still only 32. Factoring in his ascent as a young cricketer in Victoria, his move to Tassie, his initial failing as a batsman there, his rise and fall as a surprise allrounder, his move back to Victoria and his last couple of seasons languishing in grade cricket I figured that'd more than amount for a full career.

I've got no issue with being selected for the Stars though. The standard isn't very good this season and he's just the sort of no-apologies hack these days no-one should mind occupying something like a "batting 7 and emergency bowler, probably won't be needed" role in a team (providing team balance dictates one has to exist) that has a couple of good allrounders in the top five or six. It'd be nice if he didn't open the batting though; that's a little too much jam for my tastes.

I really don't like Mel Jones as a play by play commentator. Reads the information that is on the screen too much.
