Just me or are a disproportionate number of Aussie grounds (which unlike comparable NZ grounds are not restricted for size) built as sort of ‘wrong way around ovals’ where straight is short and square is huge?

I think it's only Melbourne and Perth. Melbourne is that way because the pitch was oriented East-West a very long time ago, no idea why Perth is, I wouldn't think AFL would really require it but maybe they whinged their way into it.

Sydney Thunder home ground is too. Not sure if they still play there, was called ANZ stadium or some such.
