I can understand not declaring. A defeat to Bangladesh would be demoralising, and I don't exactly get a confident vibe from the NZ camp anyway.

Yeah why give them anything when you can probably wrap up the series in the next game. Might be different if it wasn't Bangladesh

There's not a lot in it. There's also been some abject fielding which has significantly affected the scores.

This test has been a poor one for New Zealand and I think South Africa will be too good for us. But I also think this is an outlier and we will be much better in the 2nd test and beyond.The SA series is going to be great to watch
I just don't get the overwhelming negativity from some of you so-called NZ fans. You're not just boring everyone that has to listen to you, you're ruining your own enjoyment of cricket. And I thought I was a misery-guts....

He's got the verbiage wrong, but the mentality right - if they were 100 runs ahead when we declared, they'd be more likely to go after a score of 200-250 and declare, giving us two opportunities - one, getting their batsmen out early while they attempt to attack us, two, actually having a target set for us to chase.
We actually destroyed the game by not batting quickly enough during the Watling/Santner partnership because ultimately, now the Bangladesh need to score 300 to feel comfortable of setting a chase and will be more circumspect and due to the time taken out of the game, the chances of us knocking them over after early pressure has diminished too. No real need for Bangladesh to do anything but defend now.
It's pretty evident though that New Zealand cricket fans don't have an attacking bone in their body, and despite McCullum showing what attacking cricket was, 12 months on we've completely lost our mettle.

Jesus, an over by Southee without any half tracking ****.
What I don't get is that with Boult and Southee both scratching 140 so far in their spells, their bowling looks so powder puff, and not getting the same lift or pace off the wicket that Taskin and Kamrul were getting.
