It now appears that CCS did indeed qualify ahead of DOHS, on a better run rate. Very confusing.

Super League

(all points gained in the first stage are carried forward to the second stage)

Fatullah: Mohammedan (11-1) beat CCS (5-7) by 6 wickets with 4 overs remaining
CCS 152 (34) – Uttam Sarkar 26, Niazmuddin 40, Nazmul Hossain Milon 29; Naved-ul-Hasan 4-35, Saqlain Sajib 2-22
Mohammedan 155-4 (30) – Shamsur Rahman 21, Mohammad Ashraful 46, Nafees Iqbal 56*; Refatuzzaman 2-19, Nizamuddin 2-26

Mohammedan consolidated their position at the top of the table with a lop-sided victory over CCS in a game reduced to 34 overs.

BKSP: Abahani (10-2) beat Victoria (6-6) by 7 wickets with 6.1 overs remaining
Victoria 108 (25.4) – Abul Bashar 23; Shakib Al Hasan 4-11, Mohammad Rafique 2-14, Abdur Razzak 2-22, Subashis Roy 2-28
Abahani 110-3 (20.5) – Imrul Kayes 42, Rony Talukder 21, Shakib Al Hasan 34*; Abul Bashar 3-26

Reduced to 27 overs. Abahani’s international spinners proved far too good for Victoria’s limited batting lineup.

Mirpur: Biman (9-3) beat Kalabagan (8-4) by 7 wickets with 1.2 overs remaining
Kalabagan 201-8 (27) – Nazmus Sadat 56 (49), Mohammad Zahid 37, Raqibul Hasan 41, Zubair Ahmed 32; Shafiul Islam 3-35, Elias Sunny 2-39
Biman 202-3 (25.4) – Avishek Mitra 42, Mushfiqur Rahim 84* (63), Jahurul Islam 28, Hasantha Fernando 32*

Matched reduced to 27 overs. Biman powered home thanks to the innings of the day from Mushfiqur, who hit 8 fours and a pair of sixes.

Victoria and CCS cannot win the title, while Kalabagan realistically cannot – they must win all of their four remaining games and hope that Mohammedan lose at least three. Abahani and Biman are two and fours points behind Mohammedan respectively.

Requiring just a single off the final ball to win the game, Arafat Sunny was run out by Mushfiqur Rahim. Biman’s total was boosted from the depths of 101-8 by number ten Shafiul Islam, who celebrated his call up into the national training squad by hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes. Shakib had figures of 9-1-49-1 and scored 8 for Abahani. Match reduced to 42 overs.

Fatullah: Mohammedan beat Victoria by 8 wickets

CCS 172-9 (40) – Uttam Sarkar 26, Tapash Ghosh 45, Nazmul Hossain 61; Mohammad Zahid 3-5, Fariduddin 2-30, Shafaq Al Zabir 3-32

Match reduced to 40 overs. Raqibul opened, hitting 5 fours and a pair of sixes.

Tuesday

Fatullah: Abahani (11-2+1) beat Kalabagan (9-5) by 64 runs
Abahani 254 (49.3) – Imrul Kayes 129 (131), Abdul Razzaq 59 (76), Nasir Hossain 25; Fariduddin 2-42, Nazmus Sadat 2-43, Enamul Haque 2-43, Ariful Haque 2-49
Kalabagan 190 (49.5) – Mohammad Zahid 31, Javed Omar 54* (114), Fariduddin 36, Shafaq Al Zabir 26; Shakib Al Hasan 3-30, Mohammad Rafique 2-29

Kalabagan were never in the hunt after losing Nazmus and Raqibul within the first five overs. Imrul Kayes smashed 129 from 131 balls, with 13 fours and 3 sixes, but Rony Talukder (1) and Shakib (5) failed again with the bat.

Mirpur: Biman (10-3+1) beat Mohammadan (12-2) by 112 runs
Biman 243-6 (50) – Mushfiqur Rahim 28, Avishek Mitra 34, Tushar Imran 83* (99), Hasantha Fernando 36, Sanwar Hossain 30; Nabil Samad 2-32, Naved-ul-Hasan 2-58
Mohammadan 131 (34.3) – Aftab Ahmed 28, Nafees Iqbal 21, Mahmudullah 32, Naved-ul-Hasan 20; Elias Sunny 6-36

Elias Sunny gave new life to the title fight by running through Mohammadan’s top order. Shamsur Rahman, Mohammad Ashraful, Faisal Hossain and Khaled Mashud all fell for single-figure scores.

Mohammadan now have 24 points, Abahani 23 and Biman 21. Each team still has another two games to play.

Relegation League

Sunday

BKSP: Surjo Torun (4-8) beat Partex (0-11+1) by 7 wickets
Partex 147-8 (34) – Rezaul Karim 39, Mehrab Hossain 80 (85); Mahbubul Alam 4-36, Monirul Islam 2-29, Sanjamul Islam 2-33
Surjo Torun 151-3 (29.2) – Imtiaz Hossain 64* (80), Junaid Siddique 48; Rezaul Haque 2-26

Match reduced to 34 overs. Hapless Partex, dependent almost entirely on Mehrab, used ten bowlers in their attempt to defend 147. The relegation league is now essentially a two-way fight between Surjo Torun (8 points) and Khelaghar (6). Partex are definitely relegated.

Great to here that cricman, anything to mention about some of the players we haven't seen play for the national side? How does Nasir Hossain look? (I know he didn't do much in the game, more your just general impression).

Monday

Mirpur: Mohammedan beat Abahani by 3 wickets with 0 balls remaining
Abahani* 273-9 (50) –Rony Talukder 46, Mahubul Alam 28, Abdur Razzaq 88 (71), Nadif Chowdhury 56; Naved-ul-Hasan 3-41, Mohammad Ashraful 2-46, Saqlain Sajib 2-57
Mohammedan 274-7 (50) – Mohammad Ashraful 52 (76), Mahmdullah 64 (80), Faisal Hossain 78 (69), Naved-ul-Hasan 29; Subashis Roy 3-49, Mohammad Rafique 2-60

After Abahani’s brilliant comeback victory in the Twenty20, Mohammedan clinched this classic, see-saw fixture to claim the main competition. Put into bat, Abahani started solidly: after 19 overs they were 88 without loss. Then Rony and Shakib fell in the space of seven balls; Mahbubul followed within four overs. Enter Razzaq. In the space of an hour and a half and 71 deliveries, the Pakistani smashed 88, with 3 fours and 6 sixes. Nadif Chowdhury provided an excellent foil, clearing the ropes twice himself. In reply, Mohammedan slipped to 51-3 as they started slowly, with Shamsur, Aftab and Marshall Ayub all back in the pavilion early on. Ashraful rebuilt, allowing Mahmudullah (3 fours) and Faisal (2 fours, 3 sixes) to put together a stand of 115 for the fifth wicket. But everything appeared to be in vain until Mahmudullah was run out with 55 required and 27 deliveries remaining. Naved-ul-Hasan, however, had other ideas. 34 were needed of the last two overs: the penultimate, bowled by Shakib, disappeared for 18; the second and third balls of the last, from Rafique, went for sixes. Having refused a single off the fourth ball, Naved was then stumped by Hamidul Islam, leaving new batsman Khaled Mashud needing four from the final ball – which he achieved, courtesy of a top-edge. Mohammedan’s victory gave them their first DPL win since 2001 and ended Abahani’s three year domination of the competition.

Fatullah: Biman beat CCS by 6 wickets with 24 balls remaining
CCS 221 (49.3) – Uttam Sarkar 21, Tapash Ghosh 85 (147), Nazmul Hossain 89 (86); Sharifullah 3-27, Mosharraf Hossain 2-39, Talha Jubair 2-40, Elias Sunny 2-41
Biman 222-4 (46) – Mushfiqur Rahim 55 (47), Avishek Mitra 31, Elias Sunny 49*, Hasantha Fernando 54* (67)

Dhanmondi: Kalabagan beat Victoria by 6 wickets with 35 balls remaining
Victoria 259 (50) – Habibur Rahman 23, Kamrul Islam 20, Abul Bashar 101 (123), Mohammad Sharif 24, Arafat Salahuddin 44; Murad Khan 3-37, Enamul Haque 3-42
Kalabagan 263-4 (44.1) – Raqibul Hasan 52, Mohammad Zahid 107 (105, 17 fours), Javed Omar 58* (60)

Here’s a nice table than the New Age has made for us:

Some final relegation league results to come in, then I can get some stats up for you all for peruse at your leisure.

The beginning National Cricket League was delayed by just under two weeks by a conflict between the board and the players' welfare association surrounding pay. In a supposed effort to increase competition, the format was changed to a single round-robin group stage, with the top four qualifying for a second league (points carried forwards), followed by a final. Naturally this meant players would play a reduced number of games (five for those knocked out in the opening stage, nine for those in the final; vs ten for everyone last year) and since the players are only paid a match fee, with no retainer, this was obviously a cause for concern. The board had also only very slightly raised match fee. After a prolonged conflict, during which national stars Shakib and Ashraful spoke out against the proposals, the board eventually won out, when the players decided some money was better than no money.

So here we are, round one, second day. I'm not really sure why no team is playing at home. Usual early first-class collapses already in evident.

SANS, Khulna: Barisal v Chittagong
Chittagong 200 (59.4) - Faisal Hossain 73; Monir Hossain 3-24, Arafat Salahuddin 3-37
Barisal 239 (83.3) - Asif Ahmed 108 (192), Shahin Hossain 65; Kamrul Islam 3-85
Chittagong 90-2 (33) - Gazi Salahuddin 35, Mahbubul Karim 32

Chittagong lead by 51. 17-year-old Asif Ahmed hit a ton on debut, opening the batting. He added 146 with Shahin Hossain, before Barisal lost their last seven for just 57. Nicely poised.

SKS, Rajshahi: Dhaka v Khulna
Khulna 132 (40) - Talha Jubair 4-43, Mohammad Sharif 3-32, Mosharraf Hossain 2-21
Dhaka 120 (45.4) - Mosharraf Hossain 31; Robiul Islam 4-48, Ziaur Rahman 2-24
Khulna 220 (58.1) - Nazmus Sadat 60, Habibul Bashar 69; Talha Jubair 7-59, Mohammad Sharif 2-57
Dhaka 17-0 (5)

Dhaka's target is 233. Wickets falling everywhere here, only Nazmus Sadat and Habibul Bashar showing much resolve with the bat. Talha Jubair's match figures were 29-6-102-13.

Fatullah: Rajshahi v Sylhet
Rajshahi 529-7 dec (146) - Jahurul Islam 139 (268), Khaled Mashud 56, Farhad Hossain 53, Naeem Islam 123* (192), Nasir Hossain 42, Anisur Rahman 79
Sylhet 86-6 (35) - Saqlain Sajib 4-24

Rajshahi lead by 443 runs. Jahurul Islam continued his good DPL form by hitting 18 fours and a six; Naeem Islam his ODI form with 16 fours and a six. This one looks as good as done. Rajin Saleh (23) and Alok Kapali (13) made little impression with the bat for Sylhet.

saqlain has done awesome so far, taking over 4.5 wickets a game, strike rate of 42 and economy close to 2.5, averaging under 18. not so bad in list A either. it's good to see naeem, nazmus, shamsur, talukder and marshall all getting runs, they're all really good prospects. talha jubair pushing for a rebirth to the national side, but it's a bit disappointing that mithun ali has basically fallen off the map, explosive keeper batsman could have been really good for BD in the shorter versions. expecting big seasons from subashis roy and shuvo, also hopefully sajidul islam gets his body right and can do well along with emon ahmed who is suppsoed to be pretty decent despite a not so good record.

No. There used to be a nice site that synthesised all the Bangla sources, but it doesn't exist anymore. The Daily Star or The New Age are probably the best English-language sources.

I tend to get most of the info straight off the scorecards at the moment though, don't have time to traipse through the newspapers' sites. There's also the ************* community (one or two decent posters, plus loads of clueless types). The most extensive coverage tends to be in the Bengali media, which obviously I can't read, or make out different numbers, given the script.

Pretty Late, but never late than never

Faisal Hossian Dickens and Subashis Roy stood out, Dickens looks to me like a Decent Middle Order, Uses His Feet Well vs Spin Bowling.

If Mashrafe played in the DPL this year, I guarantee you he would have vouched for Roy to be selected over a Shafiul.

I Saw Sajib Bowl once ... Shakib like bowling wise, Accurate and Diguses his Arm Ball very well.

I'm just tired of SLA ... I'd go with the Triple Left Arm Attack in ODI's like we did in the WC, but in Tests I don't know, having 2 SLA bowling in Tandem against a Subcontinental Side

He only played the three games according to Cricket Archive, then Abahani signed Abdur Razzaq, who just destroyed attacks.

Obviously now the club season is over, there are no more overseas players. Have a look at the scores on Cricinfo now... several of the sides are just dire. Barisal's batting would never make three figures in a Test.

It truly must be a dismal domestic setup when a Plate league Ranji team discard makes consistently good scores there. Thanks mate

Yes, but you have to remember the talent in the DPL were all concentrated towards five or six sides, of which two (Abahani and Mohammedan) were easily better. Some of the teams at the bottom are absolute no-hopers and will contribute very few players to the divisional sides this season.
