If Voges does not get picked for The Ashes I think it sends a really negative message to everybody else. If scoring 1300+ runs in a shield season doesn't get you picked to play for Australia then you might as well skip the shield and become a T20 specialist.

Surely a century is enough to book a flight on the Winter tours? Will be tough to see who he displaces, but he's probably been the most consistent bat in the Shield that's still playing/not in the Test side over the last 10 years.

His omission from that '89 tour makes Voges' likely omission look justifiable

i think there's still a spot open in the batting, i reckon they'll move smitteh up to 3 after how he's gone there in the odi's and how keen he is to bat there

marsh and watson will fight it out for the 6 spot and then voges, smarsh and burns will be the ones competing for a spot at 5
