Ok guys, you have 3 hours to complete the assignment below:

- Burns fans - do you see him as a realistic chance of taking over Rogers spot at the top of the order, or do you see him more of a number 3-5 batsman?

- Tassie batting order, yeah my initial reaction to Hilf at 8 was that he was too high, but in a 4-day match and up against the opposition bowling attack, I don't actually mind it*.

- Thoughts on Ed Cowan and his chances back with the Aussie team? He has been batting at a far better clip this year, which seems to be working for him.

- Peter Handscomb, injured/didn't want to play or was he dropped for Christian/Finch?

*this ain't even a question, just agree with me and I'll be happy.

Has Butterworth returned at any level of cricket yet? He was supposed to be back in time for the first Shield game; that's over a month ago now.

Ideally I'd want Burns to do a Hayden and churn out more runs. Since we aren't ideally placed I'd be wanting to bring Burns in as opener or at 3 (with Watto moving to opener) if Rogers' poor run continues through the second test atleast. If Rogers scores runs then Burns at 3 (or even Usman) for Watson. For questioned 2 I will defer to the selectorial wisdom of the 2 headed sister bothering state, if Cowan goes large why not and dunno about Handscomb except I'd like to see him back in the team.

1. I think he's the long-term 3, but he could play top-order if possible, 3. Probably too sameish to Rogers, and unless he scores 1000+ runs I think his time is up. Besides, the quickness of him being dropped as soon as Lehmann took over is not a positive sign for his future, 4. Surely the former?

Yes, played a Second XI match with Jackson Bird a couple of weeks back. Wasn't really successful though.

I always expected Hughes to eventually cement the second openers slot and had Burns batting at 3. With Hughes gone though and most of the other opening options either getting on in age and not that great (Cowan, Cosgrove) or young and not really there yet (Maddinson, Bancroft, Silk) I could see him getting the gig over Rogers. I doubt the selectors will drop Rogers unless he fails for the first 3 Tests though (would give him an MCG send off if so). A debut at Sydney and the Test series against the West Indies would be a decent run for him to try establish his place in the side before the Ashes.

I'd be surprised if Cowan gets another run. Boof was pretty quick in getting rid of him so I'd expect it would take both Rogers and Watson getting dropped him to get the call up alongside continuing what he's started this year.

1. Very much so, although CA are probably more likely to go with S.Darsh or Cowan opening again, Burns seems more a middle order guy anyway. He's got a better chance at the end of 2015 where hopefully someone gets Watto to euthanize himself.
2. Dreadful as usual once you get past the openers
3. See 1.
4. Probably dropped for Finch or Batswell.

i think ronnie, like most players who have an opinion, does not get along with him whatsoever.

heard he's really struggling with the hughes situation though which was the reason for the lack of interest, more than anything else.

Great to see Carters back in the runs after a quiet start to the Shield. Good if we can get enough play today for Kurtis to bag a ton and to maybe give ourselves a chance of an innings win, but much more likely to be sitting around watching the rain at the SCG for the next two days unfortunately.

Victoria used 7 bowlers against WA and each took at least one wicket. Wonder if there has ever been that many wicket takers in a FC bowling innings?
