Love was dropped towards the middle of last season or maybe even before the season started in the OD side, he wasn't in the greatest of form and they wanted him to concentrate on his FC form. Since then, I don't think they will play him again with trying to get some younger players into the team. He was a fine top order OD player, but we really need him to do well in the FC side. Now that QLD are 2-0 for the season and the younger guys have shown promise, I doubt he will play OD cricket for QLD again.brockley said:Qld did well despite no hayden, don't understand why martin love is not in the one day side.
Did they show what pace Bird was bowling on the live coverage? He looked to be very slow live. Early he was wayward early and didn't really trouble any batsman. Wasn't this the same guy who hit Slater on the helmet? Either he's been injured and therefore lost pace or Slater was having a real bad time of it.FaaipDeOiad said:Anyway, I actually thought Bird was alright today. Certainly more impressive than Bollinger or Henriques with the ball. I doubt he's a "future star", but he could develop into a handy domestic bowler in a couple of years, if he stays fit. I also liked the look of Sullivan for Queensland.
Doubt he'll play a test match, although wouldn't be out of place. He isn't the youngest bloke going around. If he was 21 he might be a serious contender for the national side. I still think he could play a serious role in our ODI side, as he can bat anywhere in the order and bowl 10 tight overs, and pick up wickets.Perm said:Good win for Queensland with James Hopes having a very good game, how far behind Shane Watson would he be rated as an all-rounder in the Australian selectors eyes? I know he has played a couple of one dayers but is it likely he'll get test matches in the future?
Bird hit Slater when his action was a lot more... er... "suspect". He's had a fair bit of correctional work since then.Mister Wright said:Did they show what pace Bird was bowling on the live coverage? He looked to be very slow live. Didn't mind the look of "I've come to clean ze pool" Henriques. Bowling looked sharpish, but didn't really trouble Peren and Hopes too much. Didn't get to see much of his batting, top order kind of ruined it for him.
I just looked him up on cricinfo and he's only just turned 28 but he doesn't have a very good FC record, averaging 29 with the bat and 39 with the ball. I'd say your comments about him being an ODI player are pretty accurate, from what I've seen he looks like he'll have the goods. Aggressive batsman, pretty consistent bowling. I'd like to see more of him, he looks pretty handy.Mister Wright said:Doubt he'll play a test match, although wouldn't be out of place. He isn't the youngest bloke going around. His FC record isn't all that flash because he had a shocking first couple of seasons. Since then he has improved dramatically especially the last season or so. IMO he would be better option than Shane Watson in the ODI side, whereas Watson is clearly the better FC player.Perm said:I just looked him up on cricinfo and he's only just turned 28 but he doesn't have a very good FC record, averaging 29 with the bat and 39 with the ball. Bird was bowling from the high 130s to the low 140s. Similar sort of pace to Mitchell Johnson, behind Lee and Tait. Certainly not slow, and much quicker than Henriques who was bowling high 120s. He was a bit wayward, but certainly not terrible or anything. Like I said, a bit of experience and he could be a good bowler, he's certainly quick and can swing the ball.Mister Wright said:Did they show what pace Bird was bowling on the live coverage? high 130s, 140s, really? Hmmm....that's surprising, he really looked a lot slower than that. All the other bowlers seemed faster than him.FaaipDeOiad said:Bird was bowling from the high 130s to the low 140s. Similar sort of pace to Mitchell Johnson, behind Lee and Tait. Too early to judge Henriques obviously, but he's certainly got talent. A couple of years without injuries and he could develop a long way.
I didn't see every ball he bowled, just the brief spell he bowled before he was replaced by Hauritz, but he started out around 135 and peaked at about 142.Mister Wright said:high 130s, 140s, really?
