The Gat did get a good ton in Adelaide, but agreed that in the main it didn't work out.
Yeah looked verrrrry scratchy early. Batted quite nicely from 50 onwards after a massive storm ripped through Adelaide.

The ton aside, just looked well out of his depth. If England had decided to only take one of either Gatt or Gooch, might have been okay.

I'm hoping Mitch Marsh makes some runs. Western Australia has carried him for 9 games now in the hope he can play at first class level. For a poor team, that is a huge amount of faith to show in a kid.

Loving all these lively pitches. It's about time our batsmen are made to fight for their runs. Shame they're failing at it

As soon as I saw the NSW squad I knew we'd pick five bowlers plus Watson, and I knew it'd bite us in the arse. We've got a bowling allrounder batting seven, and another one batting eight who's the sixth best bowler in the team. Why not play a batsman for Coyte?

Which batsmen would you bring in? I cannot think of a standout option, Coyte was the 3rd highest run-scorer after all.

Well given he's not even in the squad I'm assuming Maddinson is injured, but are selectors might just have been dire enough to leave him out. Beyond him.. Warner, Abbott, Keen...

Abbott and Keen can still bowl too and they're far more suited to playing in a primarily batting role than Coyte, even though Coyte did hit a hundred in grade cricket a couple of weeks back.

Welcome to the forum Robin.

I slightly disagree with not blooding someone because it's an Ashes opener. From my persepective, England are hardly a superpower - not anything like the Windies of the 1980s or Australia in the 2000s. Rather, England are ranked fourth in the World, and a debutant batsman has nothing to fear or be intimidated about, coming up against the Poms - solid side that they are.
cheers! I've been reading stuff here for a while and finaly decided to register and start some posting.

My point on Huss is that they should give him a one last chane just for the sake of they carried him all the way.He was poorly given out twice as well in India after being set...If he fail to register 50+ score in the 1st test and Australia fail to win, then he's on his way.

Jeez, saw that the Vics selected Sheridan as a batsman ahead of Carters. Quite surprising, reckon Carters has more going for him as a pure batsman.

Regardless of an unlucky decision, he has consistently performed terribly for the past three years. He has scored a massive combined 3 runs in FC performances so far this summer.
Bottom line is. He's not performing now. Not good enough to improve. Has to go.

The moment I realised I really wanted Hussey dropped was when it hit me that even if he did ton up in a Test, I wouldn't be confident in him for the following Test. I proved to myself that I didn't just think he was out of form; I thought he'd seriously declined.

Yeah Maddinson wasn't fit. Coyte got 100 odd in grade last week so that probably was considered.

Last week, even.

Don't understand this line of thinking; the selectors have made a mistake (in selecting Hussey for so long), and they should keep making it purely because they've been doing it for a long time? Even if he does somehow score runs and come good, he's not going to be around for much longer anyway. It's time to cut and run.
