I agree tbh, Henriques appears to be doing everything he possibly can in grade cricket, he has seized his limited oppurtunities at FC level so far, and he is clearly a player of the future. Taking those things into account I think its almost criminal of the NSW selectors not to have him in there  ...he's clearly too good for grade cricket and he needs fresh challenges if he's gonna keep improving. Lambert dosent do much wrong, but he's never going to be more than a utility player at FC level really, he's not the sort of guy who will ever win you a match on his own whereas Henriques appears to have potential to do that and more.
Henriques still isn't completely fit, though. The rigours of the first class scene might be a little much for him if he breaks down playing one day a week. He got an injury early in the season and he's only just coming back for it now. I'd like to see him string a few games together before getting selected.

Ashley "Noffers" Noffke:

His FC stats this summer:

Bowling: 20 wickets @ 16

Batting: 283 runs at 94

Is he the genuine article, or just in a purple patch? He did go on the 2003 Windies tour and was, a few years ago, hailed as the next Glenn McGrath - so obviously he's always had some promise. Late blossomer or pretender?

His bowling is the genuine article, with the bat its just a purple patch I'm afraid.

Obviously he isn't going to be averaging 94 forever. I've seen steady improvement in his batting though; he's good enough to maintain an average of about 30 between now and the end of his career IMO.

Ashley Noffke is a similar type of player as Paul Reiffel.

10 - 15 years ago and Noffke would be in the Test Side, but nowadays it appears the selectors are looking for different sort of players.

Reiffel averaged mids 20s in Test Cricket with the bat. Noffke averages mid 20s in FC cricket. I would say Reiffel a better batsmen.
Reiffel never scored a first class century though despite over 200 innings, he was never really considered more than a handy number 8 or 9, whereas Noffke is threatening to be a genuine allrounder atm.

Personally I still see Noffke as no better than a number 8 if he were to play test cricket, he's got the runs on the board atm but he's looked pretty unconvincing early on in a couple of his knocks so far this year, then gone on to make the score. About Bichel/Hogg standard with the bat...someone who will make you handy runs but not somebody you want to be reliant on as one of your top 7.

I think a lot depends on how things shape up for the Aussies in the post Warne-McGrath era, Australia's batting line-up is still pretty intimidating but bowling teams out twice in a 5 day game won't be as easy as it was when Warney and Pidge were there so having an all-rounder in the squad is important and if Symonds/Watto (who are primiraly batting all-rounders) can support the 4 genuine bowlers than having them in the squad makes sense but if they aren't contributing much with the ball then it would be better to have someone like Noffke in the team as a bowling all-rounder since he would provide a genuine 5th bowling option and he can also be more than handy with the bat batting at 7 (but for that to happen Noffke would have to maintain this sort of form).

Callum Ferguson replaces Tait in the SA squad for their Pura Cup match against NSW. Hope he gets a run tbh, seen him bat a few times in OD games and have been quite impressed, although he's obviously not going all that well if he hasn't yet been able to make the redbacks batting lineup..

Has a pretty decent FC considering his age really. 2 centuries and 10 fifties is nothing to be ashamed for for a 22 year old playing in the toughest domestic comp in the world.

How good is a bloke called Ed Cowans, anyone?
He's been hyped up for quite a while but delivered pretty much nothing. He's had a purple patch or two in one day cricket but he's been extremely dissapointing in first class cricket. I think one of his main problems is the insistance he's an opening batsman; I've seen him bat on a number of occassions and I'm sure he'd do better batting at #5 or #6, especially in the four day stuff. Certainly looks good at the crease when he's not getting out though. A very similar player to Ed Joyce IMO.

Nah, he's an opener for mine, and he hasn't been that bad at FC level...An average of 35, 3 centuries...That's decent. He's supremely talented, and while he's had a bad patch lately I think he has enormous potential.

I hate Lambert, keeps putting in mediocre performances, which means he wont get dropped. Mark Cameron not a OD bowler, his never even bowled well in ODs in Grade cricket. We need him out of their quick.

Spinner doing a good job here and with Bracken to come back, we might pull this off if we get Lehmann out soon. If he stays in SA will win with 3-4 overs spare. I reckon Elliott performances have been really good this season. His kept them in a few games, been the 2nd best batsmen after Gillespie.

I'm not knocking Gillespie's batting, but things must be dire if he has been one of the star batsmen so far for them.
