*Official* Australia vs Pakistan in England

Don't know anything about this Smith fellow but looking at his first class stats he averages 56 with the bat and 49 with the ball so he seems a batsman who can bowl a bit. But he has been picked as Australia's fourth bowler and batted at 8 so it seems a mighty strange selection.

Well this may turn into something if these 2 can push Pak past 200 tomorrow...if the weather is going to be sunny tomorrow and not too windy it will be ideal.

Plus i feel Australia lack the quality spin bowling, no offense to young Smith but that is a major area of concern if the conditions change to not so bowler friendly.

How is Lords pitch on day 4-5....?

Aus gave England a huge scare chasing 500ish on Day 4 last year, although they folded to Fred & Swann on Day 5.
SA never looked like losing wickets when saving the game there in 2008. iirc it held up well for NZ in 2008 as well.
It was a road for the SL and Pak tests in 2006.
However, it was livelier in 2007 and 2005.

Of course, most of those sides had superior batting lineups to the current Pakistan XI.

Tim pained by Umar goolies blow
It's always humorous when it happens to someone else. Early in Paine's innings he received a difficult delivery jagging back in from Umar Gul and the way the batsman folded in half left no doubt as to where he was struck. A good three or four minutes of deep breaths and squats followed, including a visit from the physio, who couldn't very well give any hands-on assistance, before Paine was finally able to resume.

:lol::lol: cracked me up big time!

I'm going tomorrow, have been looking forward to it for ages.

Last year when I went to Lords (T20 world cup) Afridi was boo'd all the way to the crease by Indian fans, took a massive swipe to hit the ball miles in the air, and was out first ball. He was also practicing in the nets by facing into the net and smacking it up in the air with a poor Pakistani coach in there trying to keep out of the way. Wonder what will happen tomorrow!

Johnson's batting has deteriorated since his 100 in SA so has Broad's. Helf's batting is improving.

Good to see my number 2 team put up a bit of a fight but surely they won't threaten 440.

Kat man out again before 100 but it's hard to be too critical considering he top scored in both knocks against the best Pakistan bowling without much match practice since his last Test. Gotta love his application, every game is his last in his mind. Don't think Norf's in trouble, personally, but he should be a little anxious.

Interesting that Smith's been nailed quite quickly by Kaneria LBW in both digs, almost identical dismissals. Gonna have to do a bit better than plonking your front foot down the strip, Smitteh.......

Loving the Pakistani fans in this thread sledging their players. Haha, you guys are alright.

Not really relevant to the main point of the article but I found this interesting as it partially confirms what I suspected:

Michael Clarke-Marcus North 13 1026 78.92 5/ 0
That North is much more likely to bring his A-game when Clarke does at the other end.

Yeah they go well together, Clarke and North, I don't know if it's any particular reason why...

In the last 60 Tests, Australia's number 6 has averaged just 38.11. That's not good enough at all!

Symonds, North, Johnson, Hodge, Haddin, Watson have all filled this position - Is there anyone else?

McDonald batted there a couple of times IIRC.
