I just really hate this tactic by NZ and it seems to be a regression since the days of Baz where they look to bat time and launch at the end, it means every now and again you'll have an amazing chase, but you put yourself in a position where everything has to go your way.

3.2 RPO this partnership...

And as I write that, finally Williamson does something.
The sooner people realize Kane isn't captaincy material the better, he's just so defensive.

He makes Cook look like freaking McCullum.

Got to be a conscious decision to ensure they don't lose a wicket until perhaps the 20th overs regardless, but poor tactic for mine, mainly because it won't get any easier to score fast, it will get more difficult as the ball gets old.
At this rate after 20 overs we'd be looking at a run rate of 10+. 10 runs per over is difficult enough in T20s let alone sustaining for 30 overs.

Kane hasn't done anything captaincy wise to warrant him continuing in the role. In fact I feel it has had a detrimental effect on his batting. Having said that I don't know who else could captain the side. They certainly aren't going back to Taylor, that's for sure.

Give it a rest with the Williamson bashing. Sure this is not one of his better batting efforts, but golly.

Have to agree with the suggestion that's sometimes made on this forum that KW gets the Tendulkar treatment when it comes to his followers. Both hyping and fault finding.

I think people are so anti Williamson due to him being shoved down their throats in this forum, I honestly don't believe any of the other players (QDK, Kohli, Smith, ABDV) would be playing this way in this sort of chase.

I think these guys have decided they can't win and might as well get some time in the middle and knock up some 50s or 100s.

Exactly. ABDV would probably have won the game for SA by now.

Don't forget how much Williamson's 'greatness' is shoved down our throat by the NZ commentators...

That is something McCullum mentions in his book regarding the Wright coaching era, where they would aim to get to the 35th over mark with a few wickets down before launching.

Now they've seen off the initial burst of Starc & Hazlewood looks like they're picking it up a bit.
