That's essentially what's been happening in England's tests too, so idea why he doesn't just move up to 3.

Anyway, back to Australia, looks like they're without their second best ODI bowlers. Someone to make a debut? Who is this Carey fella? Any good? Can he play like a modern ODI batsman?
Carey has been a PONI for a while. He’s a good young keeper-batsman. His ODD stats aren’t great, but in terms of whether he can score quickly, I commend you to the highlights of the bbl game between Adelaide and Hobart the other night.

Englands odds are juicy once again today, they were way overpriced game 1.

An attack with Jhye Rich, Zamps and Tye could leak runs, we need a Starc masterclass.

One thing that annoys me about our selection policy in ODIs right now is that we're not playing enough to be fiddle-farting around with 3rd XI selections. We have no idea who the top bowling attack is and we seem to drop guys and pick new ones every few months. Our matador cup schedule doesn't help things either.

The selectors should stop using the ODI team as a place to develop test candidates and start trying to build a winning culture. Since Smith took over as captain our ODI record has been dreadful and a big part of it is that three quarters of the team gets changed between series.

Sure Behrendorff is out with injury but Kane Richardson did nothing wrong and was dropped for his namesake. Tye had done nothing at all to get picked. I can understand resting Cummins/Haze given their test schedule but the backups need to be the best available.

The same is true for our batting. The selection policy there hasn't been great. Shaun Marsh actually deserves to get picked. Cartwright should never have been picked. If we're going to leave Maxwell out of the squad because he doesn't get along with Lehmann that's fine but we need an adequate replacement hitter.

Finch
Warner
Smith
S Marsh
M Marsh
Stoinis
Wade+
Starc
K Richardson
Hazlewood
Lyon

Is our best ODI team. If we need more firepower at #9 then Cummins should be in for Richardson.

Darcy Short should be in for Darsh imo. Bloke is in the form of his life. Will be interesting to see if Carey plays and if he can bat higher up than Wade would in that side.

Finch
Warner
TPC
Short/ Maxwell
Carey+
MMarsh
Stoinis
Starc
Haze
Whoever
Spinner (probably Lyon but whatevs)

If Short or Maxwell played they would give extra bowling (not that TPC would use Maxwell but anyway).

No 4 is way too high for Maxwell because he's a proven failure against quality pace bowling. If Australia want to Maxwell they shouldn't bat him higher than no 7

FMD Cameron White is playing and batting five. Two Victorians in the side again. We're toast.

Apparently so.

He at least deserves his spot head of White, principally on the basis that he deserves the same length of time (about a decade) to truly prove his mediocrity.

Head deserves a spot ahead of White about as much as Rob Quiney deserves a spot in the ATG Australian XI ahead of Neil Harvey

Is it only Victorians who get a decade to prove they aren’t up to it, while everyone else gets discarded much sooner?

These two shunts need to get on with it ffs.

So it looks like Aus have just picked an extra batsman and dropped Zampa, which probably had to happen. But it would make more sense if Maxwell was in the team rather than having to rely on Travesty Head to bowl your spin for you

I see Root has been taking lessons from the true master, Kedhar Jadhav in trolling Aussie batsmen into giving away their wickets in the middle overs.
