Phillips is in now and mitchell is loaded for a double. This game is dead, dusted. Easy win. Drop marnus, head, and starc.

A decent start this morning has turned into a disaster.

We're next to no chance now, disappointing after having some hope at the start of the day.

It's a classic Rachin Plunket dismissal tbh. He's freakishly talented but we're gonna have to get used to some fairly brainless dismissals in the near term.
It's brainless but it's nous-less, it's just not smart. It's a lot of things-less.

SA and Australia have built good plans to our batsmen to dry up runs and get us out, and I've not seen us get anywhere near being smart enough to combat it.

I think what's so frustrating for us here is the amount of incredibly dumb cricket we have played. It's been a bit of a trend for a while, since the WTC final really. Players apparently having no recognition of the game situation, or the opposition's plans and field settings - how many times have we fallen straight into the very obvious trap that has been set? Tailenders mindlessly slogging when batting with a set player. Losing the plot when bowling to the tail. Bad selections. Smacks of bad leadership and coaching.

Can't believe how low that one from Lyon kept, Phillips shouldn't have been going back to that length but everything else from him has been going way over the stumps.

I guess people have been saying for some time now that the New Zealand set-up needs a shake up. Unfortunately, rather than be proactive the powers that be have been content to rest on past glories, and now we are in the poo and getting dicked. Stead has been there too long, it’s all too stale and complacent. Southee’s captaincy style is languid and uninspiring, and recent moves such as dropping Nicholls and Wagner are too little, too late & smack of the set-up seeking to save their own skins.

100% this. We are a reasonably skilled team that is not well led and is not going anywhere near delivering on its potential because we don't prepare well enough.

It's a shame because Mitchell's actually been looking really good this morning. Feels like all the hard work yesterday is paying off for him.

How NZC and the Provinces recruit for governance and leadership positions is to always look at ex-players or people from within the system. Totally agree that people from in the system need to be in there, but they need some people with other views to be in the mix too IMO.

Sounds like Lyon has been superb this morning. He really has done some great work since the India series.

At least there will be no great victory to spare NZ. Drive the sword home into the underperforming good old boys rapist including team.
