Speaking of Matt Short where is he?

Top scorer in the big bash last year nearly 200 runs ahead of 2nd. Not the worst of bowlers either.
Would of thought this was the perfect time to get him involved in the setup.
Behind the likes of Connolly unless he’s injured

Short had a hamstring injury in February, he's not still injured is he? I thought MCGurk was just selected ahead of him (madness)
He’s recovered from that and played in the US & the Hundred recently so seems like he was overlooked

Kid was born so he missed Ireland. Think he's available for the England stuff?

Might have made himself unavailable, think he's in the ODI squad. The selectors seem a bit hesitant with Short though and I don't know why. he got some games recently and they played him as a middle-order bat which definitely doesn't suit him. Now Warner's gone he needs to be given an extended run at the top in both white ball formats

Inglis-head and/or marsh/head is probably the ODI opening pair at full strength, no?

Inglis is such a useful middle-order player I wouldn't want him to open, especially when Head, Smith and Marsh are all more suited to opening. Would think Short should get a shot though.

ODI cricket is so meaningless and infrequent these days I'm not sure what a full strength side would like like. We have a surplus of batting options though.

For me it would be something like:
Head
Smith
Marsh
Marnus
Inglis
Maxwell
Green
4 bowlers

But I suspect they might go batdeep and have someone like Green down as low as 8. And Short could replace whichever of Smith, Marnus or Green they don't want to go with

But Brandon McMullen looks every bit an international cricketer, and a good one. Class bat and while his gentle outswingers don't look like they should be effective, he keeps taking poles
With the 2028 Olympics including Cricket and there being a GB team, McMullen is the one player outside the normal England set up who might just make the squad. It'll be interesting to see if he picks up a County gig (does he actually want one?) or just carry on the T20 circuit?

Far too much for my liking
Sure but that’s how it is & they pay the bills

Friend of mine coaches him and the restrictions on him have been over the top for years

Argument is that he’s 25 and they want him around for the next 10 years so missing out on a few games now is irrelevant

To put things into perspective, he was given a 3 year rookie contract when most got 1 year and is now on a full CA contract

They say jump, he says “how high?”

But Australia have been using Cummins , Starc and Hazlewood for close to a decade now , how are the next gen going to come through if they don't get a good run ?

And there's a Champions Trophy coming up in the next 6 months or so, surely Bartlett wants to put his hand up for that.
