Clarke too...

Australia 239/6, Partnership of 0
MJ Clarke lbw b Muralitharan 0 (3b 0x4 0x6)
A Symonds 16* (13b 1x4) M Muralitharan 9.5-1-30-2 (2w)
Cricinfo's description of his dismissal made me smile!

They didn't use Vaas because their whole tactic was to just nail Australia with all out spin, and it almost paid off until Symonds got stuck into them.

I was impressed with how Jayawardene and Sangakarra fought out of a tough spot but really, Jayasuriya and Kalu's run out were both an absolute disgrace. You're chasing 260, the team is relying on their top order and that happens. It's gifting them the game.

Another good outing for the Aussies.

Clarke's average is rapidly decreasing.
If he has a poor ODI series he will end up averaging in the high 20's low 30's.

Even if he gets 4 more ducks in the series he'll still average over 30.

Yes it was good game, the Australians were good with the bat particularly the openers, Ponting and Symonds. Hogg too played well. I think Atapattu is a good captain, SL 's fielding has improved by 25 percent or so, remember last yr when they played Australia in the VB series, their (SL) fielding was extremely poor. Atapattu said he go into the next game with 6 spinners, serious.

I think Ponting said it right, the toss played a crucial role in giving the visitors added confidence to blast away early in the innings.

However the next game on Sunday is a day game.

SL and India have always had batting as their trump card which is why Australians know they need to score 250+ each and every time.

PS. I must say the pitch in Dmabulla is realllllllly slow! Was this the same pitch where SL thrashed India and scored 985 runs or so (not sure, I think it was Colombo)!

None from here. If a bloke ever deserved to snare a 5-fer, it's Hoggy.

I was very disappointed in the SL batting performance, they could and should have produced a better batting display. At least if they did not win the game at least put in a fight and make it close. The first game in a one day series is always crucial just like the first session of the first test match. Obviously, the two run outs didn't help either.

Expecting a better performance with the bat next game.

None from here either, 5 wickets is 5 wickets as far as I'm concerned. Good on him.

Yeah I thought Brad Hogg did a good job, but if you look at his wickets they were the last....:D

Australia has showed that they can play under any track

As Ricky Ponting said that the sri lankans should now think of another startegy. They were thinking that they will bowl the aussies out by playing 5 spinners and on a spinning pitch. Their they were outdone by their own trick.

Surprising to see the srilankan bowlers bowl only 9-10 overs in between them. the other overs were bowled by the spinners

Michael Clarke.

Yes I agree with Tim, his average is decreasing fast and his 7 not-outs out of 21 innings is what's saving him.

He's only averaged 27 in his last 12 games.

give the guy a break, seriously, just cause some people like him doesn't mean others have to make a big deal out of every time (no matter how unimportant in relatiuon to the match) he gets out, its really pathetic.

Oh, the good old Aussie Double Standards again!

When other players have been overhyped on these forums and then failed to deliver just once or twice, I don't remember too many people holding back from having a dig.

Now it's happening to one of yours and you don't like it!

lol yeah, honestly the amount of spoon feeding we got of Michael Clarke..its really no surprise there's been a backlash against him while he's struggling.

Anyway, hopefully he can work his way out of this blip in form.

Go for it! As far as I'm concerned Clarke has not got into the side on merit. He has not played enough domestic cricket, and it is showing. The reason why Australia has been so successful is when players first play they are in their mid-late 20s and have close to 100 first class games before even playing their first test. IMO one good first class season does not make a great player, however, two or three on the trot does. Clarke is being wasted in the one day team, he is missing out on valuable first class experience, which will be needed for when he makes his inevitible test debut.

so you want players who only play in Australia to have 10 years experience before the play in the international team... thats a waste of talent. a better idea might be to give players more experience at international evel at aa younger age... it certainly worked for Ponting, and Haydens early tests would have undoubtably helped him, and Martyns, not to mention the Waughs...
