**Official** Australia in Sri Lanka Jan - Feb 2025

Starc has 29 wkts @ 17.48 in his 5 tests in Sri Lanka (3 5fers and a 10fer) and you want to rotate him out?
I see. Starc will play first choice, i was referring to Starcs average in Indian conditions re rotation(where he is dire), but SL he appears to be good. Didnt realise he was so good in SL.
If the pitch is seaming, Boland will play with Starc. Then Murphy or Kuhnemann depending on the pitch, will join Lyon.

If the pitch is rank turner, Murphy and Kuhnemann will join Starc as well as Lyon. Webster will provide backup seam in all scenarios.

Starc's good record on SL is based almost entirely off his 2016 series where he was insanely good. It was also around the time he was peaking as a bowler, remember 2015 world cup? Anyway I wouldn't see it as particularly relevant to 2025 Starc. His most recent tour of India would be a better indicator of how he'd go than SL nearly a decade ago.

Having said all that he should still be first choice quick. Has the game to be effective in those conditions unlike Boland/Haze

Also id leave out Konstas from the squad. He has too many technical deficiencies at this level. Dont know why he was picked, sheer desperation. It worked for 1 test innings.

According to Tom Decent of the smh, Haze is unlikely to play the red ball matches in SL. The fact Aus has qualified for the WTC means he doesn't have to be rushed back. If 3 quickies go then its Starc and Boland with Neser (I hope).

SL can still qualify for the final and they won a test by an innings last time Australia toured.
Not realistically they can't. They would have to beat Australia 2-0 and Australia would have to be penalised 9 points for slow over rates. Not going to happen on the SL spin decks when they never lost any points in BGT

I mean, I'm certain we would've lost points during the BGT if it wasn't for the lads continually bowling India out inside 80 overs lol

Obviously, it's extremely unlikely to happen in SL

Bowling teams out does slow the over rate though.

Yep very true, plus India really faffed around and milked all the time they could when batting (in Sydney especially)
Noticed it in Melbourne too. They were told off for it multiple times. One would hope the match referee would take all that into consideration.

Smith took nearly 2 minutes to face up his first ball after reaching the crease in one game plus he changes gloves every few overs

That stuff should be stamped out
