In fairness to Clarke, that shot got him plenty of runs last Test. Was on, just didn't get to it quick enough I guess.

Tahir's a good bowler. Though history has shown that guessing exactly quite how players will make the transition from FC to Test is bloody difficult. Been one of the leading global FC wicket takers for a few years now though. Definitely has something about him so would be surprised if he wasn't a significant improvement on Harris/Botha/Peterson or any of SA's alternatives.

Is that suprising considering Tahir's record, or is his record misleading somehow? Do people who are familiar with his bowling think he is below his capabilities or is this pretty much how he is?

In county cricket he's known for mixing up the brilliant spells with the utterly dire ones. I'm far from his biggest fan, but sure he'll come good sooner or later if you stick with him. Could be a long while.
