Maybe could have had an extra wicket. He has been criminally short though and he knows it.
The line is also not that great. The batsmen have been very disciplined and he hasn't made them play enough. Steyn has also been much pooper today than yesterday.

He said after play last night that having a break has left him rusty and his body isn't coping with backing up after the first couple of spells.

Only in his spells today though. Yesterday he bowled brilliantly. At one stage it looked like he had Ponting in his back pocket.
He was definately better yesterday. But imo, too short.

Siddle and Johnson should be ace on this deck. Can see Sids being punished a bit if he's short, which will only push his length to where it should be. :)

You'd hope they would bowl better than the Saffas. Can't be much worse.

Pretty much just came on here to echo what Pasag said earlier. North's innings has been fantastic, and Australia's overall application in the conditions and under the circumstances has been superb. 400+ is a very good score. If it turns into 500 odd, it'll be hard for South Africa to avoid defeat IMO, given Australia's attack should be reasonably effective on this surface, even if batting is a fair bit easier than yesterday.

Also, Johnson's a really good batsman.

On his way, North.

Great innings though, no way a Symonds, Mickey Ds or Watto could've played like that. Only Dussey could have.

Can see Johnson failing to make the batsmen play enough.

Also, that was such a trademark Paul Harris wicket. No threat but gets wickets because people somehow STILL think "put Smith under pressure, hit Harris out of the attack" is a good tactic.

Now that Compass is gone, I don't see why Johnson and Siddle can't make a solid partnership. Hilfy though...

Haha nah, if anything of late he's been too straight actually. Plus being so many runs behind will probably creep into the South African mentality, making them play at what they shouldn't.

Alrite, let's get the rest of them. Bring back Steyn.

If they finish Australia for less than 440 or so, there's still a reasonable chance of victory depending on how they bat.

Watto is more than capable of playing like that, so is Hodge, but being capable is one thing, but doing it is another, so thumbs up to North for playing such a brilliant kncok, when the chips were down.

BARNES OUT
Watto would've been late down on a ball from Ntini imo. Did it against Sharma way too often in India. Either that or knicked a Steyn outswinger early, he knicks a few early. Pushes on the front foot really hard early on, knicks 'em.

Wouldn't have been confident about him tonning up either. Same goes for Hodge, a bit like Haddin in the way he wafts outside off and sometimes cuts too close to his body.
