It's been an incident amplified by all the 'hard but fair' talk. I'm pretty sure most of the cricketing world were just waiting to nail the Aussies about something.

On the Faf issue Gnske, he was clearly trying to use the mint to alter the ball, but the nature of the method lent itself to some level of playing oblivious on his part. To my knowledge mints aren't banned? Bancroft and Smith openly admitted to what they did. I don't think Smith should lose his captaincy, but the calls aren't unwarranted and if he did I'd understand why.
To be clear, I wasn't comparing the two incidents on gravity of the situation but the nature of it. This is infinitely worse than Faf taking it upon himself as a lone wolf to get jiggy with things. Even then it was quite poor on his part.

Listen, the "everybody does it" excuse doesn't wash when it comes to performance enhancing drugs in athletics, and doesn't do it in cricket either. Smith is far more culpable here than the rest on the following grounds:

1) Systematic premeditation among the whole group. This wasn't a lone wolf or one guy going out on his own.
2) Cover up and lying to umpires on the spot.
3) You can at least say using minty saliva is subtle. This is anything but subtle, and therefore is the most obvious form of ball tampering since Afridi biting a cricket ball.
4) Him getting the most junior member in the side - Bancroft to carry out his deed.
5) A press conference admission.

Let aside the fact that the Aussie media have been extremely sanctimonious in the past about others tampering, spot fixing etc, and BS-ing about not crossing the line and playing the game in the right spirit blah blah.

Also, cricket is much more popular in Australia than some other countries and its the national sport. The Australian Test Captain is held in incredible esteem...barely any in England would have even heard of Alistair Cook. The legacy here comes all the way from Allan Border, Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh, Ponting, Clarke....and now...Smith.

In fairness they've lived up to those standards, they've been utterly damning of these revelations.

So at least they're not total hypocrites too even if I hate all their guts.

Besides....this is all just based on "smell"...but I believe the following:

1) Apparently this is the first time they've done it...BS. Come on, you did it once and you got caught immediately? Highly doubt that.
2) Apparently they just decided to do this at the lunch break...BS. We've seen Hazlewood step on the ball, and a surprising amount of reverse from the Aussie bowlers. Okay it could be the case that was by legal means, but somehow I am suspicious...
3) Apparently Darren Lehman had no idea about this....BS

So if the home crowd sing songs about the opposition being cheats is the coach going to put a complaint in again about them crossing a line?

Imagine if Aus chase down whatever target they are set. What a cluster**** of conflicting emotions that would be.

More probable they just roll over and die after this.

I've now seen Bancroft's role compared to a general enlisting a man to violate the Geneva Convention.

**** me this is blowing up. I'm no advocate for lies but boy was admitting a grand conspiracy utterly unnecessary.
