Yeah this is unlike the adub (iirc?) taste in waiting where he explicitly said marsh had the sort of innings in him but was inconsistent.

Man up Dan.

Eh. I stick to my guns in the face of overwhelming evidence.

M Vijay will always be crap. He could average 110 in Test cricket for the next 10 years and he'd still be crap. Similar thing applies to Parnell.

If I concede they aren't crap, though, it will be a tasting far surpassing Hilf-gate.
I don't think you actually have to be wrong to taste it.

That said, I really wish we could talk about something else. It might just be me but I liked CW more when it wasn't just a massive pissing contest in which we made comments/predictions, dug them when we right and told others to eat **** when theirs were contradicted by short-term performances. I'm getting pretty bored of pretty much exclusively having debates over whether or not someone tasted it amidst an array of tired "debut" memes in every Australian tour thread.

I guess Australia can take comfort in the fact that they haven't lost anyone from the better half of their batting lineup.

Well I reckon you shouldn't read the thread then. Catch.

Yes, I have to say I entirely agree with Prince EWS' comments here. Those posts **** me so much, bring back the love.

IIRC Dan gets money back from sportsbet so it's not really a tasting at all.

Dan also free to retrospectively shift the goalposts then deny his original position in the face of all evidence as well.

Raise your hand if you're obsessed.

You're tasting. You were outspoken with your protest against his selection this test and he took 2/0 off his first three balls.

That's a taste.
You're taking me way too seriously considering it's me posting at 2am. Of course it's a taste.

Anyway, my issue was his potential selection at 7 as a direct swap for McLaren - my protest was against playing a bowling all-rounder at 7 because it wrecks team balance, not against the selection of Parnell or McLaren per se. At 8, his selection makes far more sense (as would've McLaren's; neither are good enough Test batsmen to bat 7, but both are objectively good enough with the ball - as we've seen here - to operate as a 4th seamer).
Then, I would have picked Abbott or Hendricks ahead of him as a seamer. Immediate results suggest that is a taste, but Southee taking 2/0 off his first three balls does not immediately make him better than Ryan Harris.

I still don't rate Parnell and he has taken wickets, so it is still a taste. But the main point I was making the other day was to do with team balance - not rating the players selected to perform those roles was secondary.

EDIT:
Basically, South Africa should pick a batsman at 7, give Duminy the lead spinner role, and play 4 quicks. Which they have done this Test, thankfully.
