*Official* Australia in Pakistan 2022

Whatever it takes!!!
Oh yeah for sure.

His inability or unwillingness to score at pace is weird though.
Shades of Sachin there... maybe more worried about his personal scores right now. It might change if he gets a 100 away perhaps, that happened with Sachin too.

Australia's day but I wouldn't be that disheartened if I was Pakistan. Australia's 5-7 feels pretty vulnerable and I think you need 500 (or bat 5-6 sessions) to really lock away the chance of a defeat, especially if this is the kind of pitch that breaks up Day 4 or something.

Need Head to bat like he did in the Ashes.

It may well be a bad take but I get a feeling Australia would be wishing they did not commit to debuting Swepson 2 days before the game. It looks like Agar would have been a handful on this track on days 4 and 5.

Wonder if it's down to missing out on a ton so much. I feel like once he gets the monkey off his back he might start to attack again.
He's been pretty consistently going at a 40/45 sr since he got back to australia from the 2019 ashes in both domestic fc and test stuff, something more to it then the ton.

Well he also made manic 12 ball 20s and failed to go on which may resulted in his efforts to grind 220 ball 70s

he did it for NSW a couple of times and it would have been an issue had Moz not (both times I think) also tonned up going at 75 or something like that

Disappointing from Pakistan. This is historic series and they could have afforded more sporting result-oriented decks. It would be a complete farce if end result is 0-0. And I wouldn’t be surprised it might very well be.

All 3 wickets have been pretty damn fluky. One great ball out of nowhere, a bullseye direct hit and then a screamer off an edge. Very easily could've been 1/300 or something.

Alas the negative line has sort of worked. Struggle to see Australia getting much above 400 now, and I don't think that's going to be enough on this deck where batting 3rd could be nasty.
They should make 500 plus from here on this deck. Ideally even more by batting all day today. The middle order is consistently iffy but you don’t get too many better platforms than this.

The elephant in the room is he hasn’t been the same player since he started getting concussed.

He came back from the jofra concussion in the ashes fine, it was after that in the Aussie summer that his game seemed worse, remember a few people noting it in the NZ in AUS tour thread.

yeah but that was what, two games? hardly enough to rebut the long trend

Trend was him being worse after coming back from concussion right? He was fine in the ashes right after he came back, was only in the 2019 shield and NZ series that he started struggling to score, and he didn't randomly get concussed in the summer, next one was in the nets pre the England odi tour in covid times.

He actually seems less fidgety at the crease of late. Less of those pronounced movements than before. I don't know why, I doubt even he does.

Anyway, regardless of the cause, if his slump is making 70 odd and averaging 40 something til he comes out the other side of it I'll take it, because it isn't like there's a poultice of top and middle order players knocking down the door demanding selection in his stead.

yeah but it's sort of antithetical to statistical analysis to rule out the concussion as a substantial cause purely on the basis of a tiny number of innings immediately after, when what came after those is a pronounced and significant trend - not that this inherently rules in the concussion as the substantial cause either, mind you, because that would be a correlation causation thing, but yeah.

Yeah our lack of batting depth is a concern, if anyone gets injured this tour where playing m.marsh or Harris.

I do think regarding Smith that the leg side related plans have become more common, and when his strike rotation gets reduced it hurts his batting. Even in the 2019 Ashes you saw some hints of that in the Oval Test.
