Personally kinda on board with the cricinfo take, felt like the decision was made pretty quickly for such a close call. Just saw the hotspot mark and immediately gave it not out.

Anyway, enough doubt, so right decision.

Steve Smith's really struggled with the first rule of waah this summer which is that before any waah occurs the umpiring decision you've just received must actually be wrong.

Now they've put heaps of pressure on the umpires they'll be looking for the pay-off in the next session, trying to force a make-up decision out of them.
Their crying in the ODI series earned them a free wicket when Adam Milne was given out lbw. So it's likely that they'll try the same thing again.

Yeah I'm not sure what the rush was in making that decision. Surely snicko worth a look regardless?

Meh, it's just a bit of frustration from Haze - showing how much it means to everyone. I think the moral outrage from these commentators is a bit much. Good session that - set up to be quite a finish.
Everyone gets frustrated in life but you need to man up an get on with it, not act like a kid. Smith as well as Haze.

AWTA.

On the reaction to the decision, frustration or not you don't take it out on the umpire that way.

She's all on for young and old once the new ball comes shortly

However...raw luck will decide what happens...specifically those Kookaburras are very hit and miss. Perhaps the new ball will really dart around, perhaps it won't swing at all. And after 15 overs with it, will it reverse?

Fantastic effort New Zealand in the morning.

No haters for Corey's stone walling. He doesn't really have a 3rd gear he can bat in safely. Just overdrive and all out defence really. Let him keep going and just giving Kane a stand.

This stand has been epic.

This test better turn out like a plot from a made-for-TV sports movie starring Shia LeBouf as Brendon McCullum.
This is the part where BMac hands the reins to KDub (Channing Tatum) through a rousing inspirational speech at lunch. Steve Smith (Dennis Hopper) is furious at his chargers and pushes an 8-year-old on his way to the changing room.

Smith acts like he's got his period every time something doesn't go his way. Out comes the teapot, the endless bitching and moaning. Keep working for wickets you muppet, you've already got it reversing through dubious means. The umpires don't owe you a wicket every twenty overs.

Following Cricinfo, they indicated that it may have been bottom of bat on ground not ball.

However this is the problem with the current review and players being able to see the reviews on the screen.
Players get to spend time deciding to review and then get to watch what is happening of course they are going to object if they think the umpires are not being reasonable.
IMHO opinion once there is a review, there should be no images broadcast to ground or live for 30 mins, to take the heat out of it.

Had a situation in a junior match where umps are one from each of the team playing, other teams ump had given a couple of contentious decisions in his teams favour.
One of their better batsman played a shot chasing down leg, cross batted. The fielding team saw and and heard a deflection and there ump at square leg (latter admitted that he heard a sound and thought he saw deflection) but the batting umpire gave it not out. Kids appealed and then reappealed. how can tell a kid that the umpires call is final when they see players spending time and trying to influence umpires about the reviews they are seeing.

What were the dubious means? They scuffed it up by throwing it into the dirt. It wasn't bottle caps or worse things I have seen in my time.

Not trying downplay the importance of the "Spirit of cricket" trophy but its not the most important piece of silverware and is only given to teams that need some type of participation trophy. So no point in Steve being a hall monitor like Baz.

these two innings have confirmed that anderson is never going to be a real batsman, Block bash all the way.
This is a bit harsh. The manner of dismissals have been disappointing, but it's been a decent return from someone who was palpably out of form coming into this series. Also don't forget he's missed all but one of NZ's tests between the end of 2014 and this series and I doubt he;s had much first-class cricket otherwise.

Um, no one comes into contention for the Spirit of Cricket trophy for showing basic restraint over an unfavourable decision, a referred one at that. It's kind of the norm.

It sets a bad example, there are thousands of kids looking up to the captain of there country and naturally will want to be like him.

Yeah, I was sceptical of Anderson going into this game, but regardless of how he's made the runs, he's currently our 2nd highest run scorer against a really top quality bowling attack - with a lot of his batting done in very difficult conditions. If nothing else that shows the talent that is there, which can hopefully be refined over the next few years.

LOL at "dubious means". The ball was reversing when New Zealand were bowling as well, at the same time in the innings.
