i don't understand this plan

what was wrong with what they did in the first half hour?
I think it's because the ball has been reversing the last few overs. Hence Henry trying to bowl really full to Smith and getting the ball to come back in to him. Did get an inside edge but also makes scoring much easier.

Serious wtf?
It's my opinion; I don't think he's as good as Khawaja or Voges and I'd probably put Warner ahead of him. I also think Australia has spent the better part of the last decade producing roads and backing their pace bowlers (Johnson, Starc, Harris) to break through while Lyon mops up the leftovers. Voges isn't as good as his 97 average indicates he is, Smith isn't as good as his 58 average indicates he is.

the difference here is sri lanka, india, pakistan, west indies, england etc just couldn't help themselves and had a go at those short balls pretty early. smith is good enough to be patient.

Are you aware that Smith averages over 40 in every country he's played in?

Yes; he's a good batsman. I think an average of 45-50 is about where he stands. I think Khawaja is about 50-55 and Voges will likely end up with a 55-60 average based on his start. I'm not saying he's terrible at all, but I don't think he's a 58+ average batsman.
