Andersons first 50 runs we're excellent, his last 22 were pretty ugly. His dismissal will cause blindness, and the timing of his dismissal was terrible.

Hard on Watling. He's good enough to bat to stumps and be 40*, but his partners are intent on 20 (10) type of innings.

Deliberate instructions to the tail from Hesson / Baz?

Has Brendan arranged a couple of golf-day benefits for the last couple of days of this match?

Yeah. Henry's been hitting into the areas they wanted him to hit, got away with for 11 balls and fell on the 12th. He's no 8 (or 9) either. He's a happy hitter suited to 10, pretty much like Southee.

Wagner at least has 2 gears.

I think Henry and Southee are both fine 9s but since they effectively bat the same way it's not super ideal to have them both in the tail. I'm pretty fond of Wagner's ability to eat up a few balls. Probably our best genuine tailender in that respect.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Henry doing himself a disservice; he could average 20 with a bit of work and good attitude.

Anyway, easily my favourite knock of McCullum's, even more than the triple which was back to the wall and historical. This is what legends are made of though. Last Test, our biggest enemy (potentially #1 team) and coming in at 3-30 odd. Was expecting 40 (18) which would've been typical McCullum but instead we got a magnificent peak McCullum. And it looked good too. Some usual streaky stuff but there were some absolutely beautiful orthodox shots, piercing the field when he didn't go over the top. Was a joy to watch. Laughed so hard when they had the short stop.

Anyway, with two Saffers in we should grind through to 400 by Sunday tea session
