What are peoples opinion on how the team will lineup come Thursday? Siddle a massive chance imo.

Should White play ahead of Watson to add variety to the attack? Jaques stiff to miss imo. Krejza surely won't get a game now...
Siddle was good but he didn't do anything extraordinary in the practice game to play ahead of someone like Bollinger, there is no way White should be playing ahead of Watson either, Watson is a much better batsman than White, and with the kind of technique White has i can see him struggling big time with the bat against the likes of Kumble and Harbhajan.

If Australia were thinking about using Katich as an opener then they shouldn't have brought Jaques on this tour, they could have brought in someone like a Noffke or a David Hussey, who might have come into play at some point on this tour.

Your probably asking the Aussie fans their opinion, but I'll throw my ideas in anyway.
If Australia go in with an all pace attack, ie Lee, Clark, Johnson, and Siddle/Bollinger, then for me Katich bats at 6 and Jaques opens with Hayden.

If they go in with a spinner, which most likely now has to be Cameron White, then they could play Watson as an extra seam option at number 6, and with White likely to bat at 8, it does extend the depth of the batting and compensates for Watson playing ahead of Katich.

So you are saying if Watson plays then Katich should not be the part of the playing XI, well the Australian team management have already given hints that they are more than keen to have both Katich and Watson in the playing XI, therefore making Jaques the unlucky man to miss out.

Would rather Krezja playing. White is not a bowler and even he realises it himself. In shock they called him up to replace McGain, and I can't help but feeling they only did it because of Shipperd's bitching.

Maybe there is hope Noffke yet.

I'm not suggesting for one minute that Katich shouldn't play, I am merely trying to second guess the Aussie selectors, something that is becoming increasingly difficult to do.

I would pretty much always play Katich, but in the middle order. I think Jaques has to open, as much as I rate Katich, I would not have him at the top, with specialist openers such as Hayden and Jaques around.

For me, if Watson plays, and this is my opinion, then Katich doesn't, even though I personally would go with Kat. But if that is the case then Cameron White plays as the spinner and adds depth to the side and the obvious spin option.

If Watson doesn't play, then Katich bats at 6, and it is pretty likely an all seam attack is employed.

Going on the warmup games and current form my XI would be:

Hayden
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Watson
Haddin
Lee
Johnson
Siddle
Clark

Personally my team for the Aussies would be :
1. Hayden
2. Jaques
3. Ponting
4. Hussey
5. Clarke
6. Katich
7. Haddin
8. Lee
9. Johnson
10. Clark
11. Bollinger

Bang on. That's what it should be. Gives us four of the better bowlers in the country, and Clarke and Katich as other options if we need them.

Get this awful feeling White or Krejza will get a gig, though.

Well all i was saying was that the Australian team management has already indicated that Katich would open the innings alongside Hayden in this series, and once that happens i can't see Jaques playing.

We all know that Ponting was really keen on having Watson in the playing side all along, so it pretty much meant they had to choose from either Jaques or Katich.

Bollinger took 4/59 in the A match only a month ago, not to mention he was the best performing domestic bowler in the country last season. There's no logic to say Siddle should get the gig before Bollinger.

Not to mention he took three for **** all in the first tour match.

India generally play spin bowling well, especially in their home conditions. Admittedly they recently struggled to find answers to Mendis and Murali, they certainly won't be the only nation that will draw a blank here. But I cannot imagine Krejza or White causing anywhere near similar panic. Why select a spinner for the sake of it, hit India with pace.

Good to see Ponting get some more runs under his belt (y)

Not sure about a bowling attack, 4 seamers seems the best option, but as this match has shown, there is no way we can see Clarke as a genuine spinning option (same goes for Krezja as well). As poor a record as opposing spinners have on Indian soil, it still partially worries me to not have one in the team. If only White could remember how to bowl...

EDIT: Haha, geez what a surprise, Mike suggesting White and Siddle ahead of Watson & Bollinger/Johnson. No way known should Siddle be played ahead of Johnson or Bollinger.

Yes I appreciate that, and if the Aussie management have indicated Katich is to get the gig ahead of Jaques, then that may be the case, and I agree it would appear JAques will be the man left in the cold. But I think that would be very harsh on him.
