***Official Australia in India***

The Wheel is Forever
Hilarious but also inaccurate; India and every other touring team are afforded the best we have when they tour here. Pretty insulting to suggest otherwise, really.
I've never heard of India having bad facilities when they tour Australia. Everything I hear about Australian facilities is first class. I am all for home field advantages, but not giving the touring team proper practicing facilities is not one of them. Especially for a big time series like India-Australia, they should definitely be afforded the best, and really, so should everyone else.

Not doing so is just petty. If BCCI care so much, they should direct their curators to prepare spinning wickets and not five day bore-a-thons, and say they will back them if ICC whinges about their pitch again. But they should reward RCA for giving the best facilities to the Australians. You are not doing the sport any favors by deliberately under-preparing a visiting team. Dumbass BCCI, if they get just one thing right this tour, I'll be a happy man.

Yeah, agreed. Preparing wickets to suit your style of play (provided they aren't dangerous or outrageously unsporting) is home team advantage. Providing your opposition with inadequate facilities to train and prepare is basically sabotage.

No reason for anyone to complain about this.

Seriously that sounded so lame, i mean what's wrong with any team getting good facilities to practice in, BCCI should be happy that they were able to provide Australia with such world-class facilities, Australians came this early to India to practice hard and not to roam around like tourists, so if BCCI has such insecurities over a touring team coming over this early and practicing hard, then they should tell the touring teams to come over just two or three days before the start of the test.

'Ponting's poor record is an advantage for us' - Zaheer

Cricinfo staff

September 25, 2008

Zaheer Khan, the India fast bowler, believes Ricky Ponting's miserable record in India could prove decisive in the four-Test series that starts next month. Ponting averages 12.28 in eight Tests in India, making it by far his least productive venue in a career during which he has averaged 58.37.

"Ponting's poor record is an advantage for us," Zaheer told the Indian news channel NDTV. "This could be his last series as a captain, [and] if you see his statements in the press you can make out he is under pressure."

Ponting had earlier said he was desperate to improve his average in India, his lowest in any country. His aggregate of 17 runs in the three Tests in 2000-01 is his worst in any Test series.

When Australia last visited India in 2004-05 the visitors won 2-1 - their first series win in India for 35 years - but Zaheer said the past did not matter. "We have been playing very good cricket lately, and we have to play very good cricket to beat Australia. We are playing to our strengths and are not bothered about what they [Australia] are doing.

"We are just thinking about what we have to do over the coming one and a half months. The Australian team relies a lot on [Matthew] Hayden and it will be good to get him out early."

Zaheer, currently playing for Rest of India in the Irani Cup, hoped to use the match as practice for Australia. "The Irani Cup will definitely help me get into that match fitness mode," he said. "We are looking to get some good match practice and this [Irani Cup] has definitely helped us."

Zaheer also had words of encouragement for fellow new-ball bowler Ishant Sharma, who has recovered from an injury sustained in Sri Lanka. "He's running in, he's fearless and he's learning and it's better he's left alone," Zaheer said. "We are moving forward as far as fast bowling is concerned. There was a concern in the past, but now we have so many fast bowlers it's a great help for the Indian team."

What exactly is Zaheer talking about there?

Can only guess that he meant Ponting's last tour of India as captain...

10 turf wickets is a lot, and above what you'd receive in Australia. Usually there are about five decks, which really is plentiful for a 15 man squad! They usually do vary them up a bit, but generally just try and reflect what the pitch will be like at the ground at which they are situated.

Would expect nothing less tbh. Doubt these public blowups will help anything though.

49! Christ, Matthews looks about 70 in that pic. :-O Someone hasn't been slip, slop & slapping.

Gotta love a bloke who still loves the game enough to play (at a decent standard) at his age tho. Obviously still adores the sport. :)
Hahaha, wtf he almost sounded serious about a comeback!!

I have a feeling that Jacques may get dropped and Katich may step in for him and tbh Katich just seems to be in unbelievable touch atm, and he is leaving no stone unturned to make sure he is part of the playing XI for the first test.

Anyways from the looks of it Ponting' woes against spin bowling in India continues.

G Singh now has 4/58 - unless cricinfo have an error, looks as if he is a product of the academy as he has played just three professional matches. Australia are 176/7, welcome to India!

^^ Yeah not a good start at all for Aussies and getting owned by a rookie spinner has made this even worse, need to buck up.

Can't wait for the series to begin. Zaheer Khan's fitness is going to be very vital. If he lasts the entire series without injury, India would have to worry about just one bowling spot at the most. I can't see India not wresting back the trophy in that case.
