oh kaspa bowled well alright, but i object to bowling pace from both ends, given that the wicket was offering the spinners a lot more than what it was for the pacers.

Yes, but Lehmann was doing nothing, his bowling was akin to throwdowns.

lets see if his bold move pays off
well if Gilly gets his eye in,Australia could be in the driving seat by the end of the day...I would have thought it might be amove to release the pressure off Australia as quickly as possible..of course it may backfire..but I think its a good move

perhaps not, but when things are not going well you have to try something different....believe me if lehmann had picked up a wicket, which he came fairly close to of sehwag, it would have been considered to be brilliant captaincy.
its all about breaking the concentration, bring in a part timer, batsmen decides to change his game, goes for the unnecessary big shot and gets himself out. its happened many times before.

His batting is nothing special, and not of top-6 quality. Even yesterday, he was dropped twice. The bowling was also quite bad, as they didn't bowl straight enough. The fielding was also quite awful. Whenever he has crossed 50, he has been given quite a few chances, by drops, no-balls and dodgy decisions. Out of the 4 half-centuries he has made, 2 were made in easy conditions, and didn't matter much.
did you not watch the rawalpindi test match? i'll remind you that patel opened the batting, a time where the pitch offered quite a bit for the bowlers in that inning. believe me that innings of patel showed grit and determination, if it werent for that inning i wouldnt have been surprised if india slumped to 30/3 which seems quite plausible seeing how tendulkar failed.

If Patel and Agarkar can get so many chances as batsmen, why not Pathan and Harbhajan? They have the big shots, and can bat a lot better than what their averages suggest. They can also find places in the team with another skill.
seriously if harbhajan had half a brain he would be quite a capable batsman......unfortunately you cant buy those things at the local market.

yeh I agree, sometimes the part time bowler being used could be your best way of breaking a partnership. e.g. suddenly bowling Mark Richardson.

He has been troubling the Aussie batsmen though. At least he has got bowling skills if not batting. Look at McGrath. Can he bat? Do you think he has brains.

Would you sugest opening with Patel and finding another keeper?
I really think so. There have been occasions in the past when a good batsman (who was also a wicket keeper) has been lost because he wasnt a good enough keeper. Pankaj Dharmani comes to mind. Much earlier there was Kunderan.

Parthiv has really been batting well. In fact, I am amazed that his terrible keeping hasnt dented his batting confidence.

We may end up having to drop two batsmen for the next test , since Laxman, Yuvraj and the skipper himself have been performing so poorly. If so, why not get in a keeper and let Parthiv play as a batsman. There is no reason to believe that a new youngster, which is what we are looking at, will do better than Parthiv has done in tests this year as a batsman.

62 , 0 & 62*, 69, 46 & 4, 54 - Average 49.5 !!!

Suppose these had been the scores of a batsman , would you have ever contemplated dropping him ?

So it is his fault that he is a keeper ? Will you drop Dravid from the one day side if he starts failing miserably as a keeper but does exceptionally well as a batsman ?

I always felt Ganguly was cooking Yuvraj's goose by doing him the 'favour' of inducting him as an opener. Now he will be replaced not by Kaif but even by Parthiv. In fact Parthiv might be played purely as an opening batsman !! Not that I agree with that but you never know what Ganguly will do next :D

Kumble is simply amazing. Thank God Hayden didn't punish India (specifically Patel) for his two lives. :)

That's a good idea. I do feel however, that at the ripe age of 19 if he took a little time off international cricket and immensely practiced his keeping, he could not only be a great batsman, but a great keeper as well. He has plenty of time, no need to rush him and cost India matches due to dropped catches.

If he was to not play Internationally is there any guarantee that he would get back into the team?
