*Official* Australia in India - ODIs

Haha, and so it starts.......
Lol, harsh. I was so clearly not advocating him in the test team.

His limitation in ODI cricket has been when there is quality spin on a tough track. Hogg, Mendis etc. have got to him at times.

So perhaps he can now become an all-time great ODI batsman.

Tbh, I think it is harsh to fault Yuvraj much in ODI cricket. His career stats are blighted by a slightly slow entrance to ODI cricket in which he was an inconsistent hitter - other than that, he has a truly all time great record. I'm not saying that he is flawless, but with such a record, he should be allowed a few flaws.

Since 01/01/05, he averages 44.66 with an SR of 90.89 and this is over 130 ODIs so this is a considerable period of time. The main place you can fault him is in NZ and Australia, where I'd assume he comes unstuck against quick short of a length bowling on a lively track. However, the fact that he retains high strike rates in these countries means that a Yuvraj special is still not off the cards.

Never seems to score runs against NZ though.

I really, really want Yuvraj to finish his career with an average of 40.

When does India play Zimbabwe next, or South Africa!

If India win tomorrow they're #1 rank in ODIs.

I know its fairly meaningless, but has India ever achieved this status? Only 3-4 years ago that India was like #6 or something and badly struggling, despite always being a favourite in the tournaments/series it played.

Dhoni's captaincy surely has a lot to do with this improvement.

I'm pretty sure we've been number one for short periods of time during Dhoni's captaincy.

What would be your XI social (from who is fit)?

I too was surprised Watson wasn't bowling, but I figured it may have been due to the pitch.
The only problem that I have with this series is that Oz has been playing for 9/10 of the last 12 months and starts another test series within a week of returning home

That is simply ridiculous!

Everyone wants to see the best teams play each other but let's have a break ffs!

However, given what's available and ignoring politics I'd probably pick

Watson
Hughes
Ponting
Hodge
Symonds
Hussey
MacDonald
Johnson
Manou
Hauritz
Bollinger

It will never happen

 The selectors have already been through Laughlin, Geeves, Harwood and Nannes this year.
I wonder if McKay has any chance of stringing together several matches before being discarded for a few years.

I would have preferred Nannes to go, but I suppose McKay has good form behind him...
Who?????????

FFS, the Oz selectors are total imbeciles

If you ignore the runs and see how Australia's innings went, big opening partnership, a very skilful batsman at 3 batting through the second half of the innings. You'd have to think they'd set a pretty decent total for the pitch even if it isn't a completely dominant one.
Interesting post this- in hindsight, it doesn't say that anymore. It says Australia were far too conservative in setting a total. When everything goes almos 100% to plan and you still only set 230- which your opponents chase down fairly comfortably- you need to sort your tactics out IMO.

I don't think Australia have the format sussed as well as India do- particularly in India. No one really does, in fact. I'm a big fan of the way India plan their innings these days.

Yeah- it's not just that they have so many quality players, there's so much confidence there to be positive and get to a properly big total. India's batsmen try to win their side the game batting first, whereas Australia seem to aim to set a par total then hope the bowlers win the game for them.

Would have loved to play a proper Aussie XI. Lee missing out has been the biggest disappointment for me.

TBH, I have no fath in Oz vs anybody in a run of the mill series

However, come WCs etc we should be favourits every time

I will not go as far as to say that I wouldn't favour Aus against any other team. But their dominance in world events is really staggering. I cannot see an Indian team doing so consistently well over a whole world cup leave alone 3.
