*Official* Australia in India 2023

G. S. Kohli

International Vice-Captain
✍Over to Rajkot
At 1.30.pm IST

❤Since 2022, Mohammed Siraj has 32 PowerPlay wickets in the format, at an incredible economy rate of 4.16 in this phase.

❤Rohit Sharma averages 59.23 against Australia in ODIs with 8 fifties and 8 hundreds against this opposition

Rohit, Kohli, Cummins tag in for India-Australia series finale

Australia have already lost the series but they will be looking to avoid what could be their first-ever whitewash against India in ODIs. The key to that, and to ending their five-match losing streak, could be an improved bowling performance. In four of their last five outings, they have conceded 338, 416, 315 and 399.

Australia's losing streak
  • ✍The last time Australia lost five successive ODIs was in 2020. That streak also featured three games against South Africa and two against India.

  • 🤣Only once have Australia lost more than five successive ODIs; they lost seven in 2018.

  • ✍Steven Smith needs 20 runs to become the fourth-fastest from Australia to reach 5000 in ODIs.

I heard this morning Starc was meant to play this game for Aus. Presume Haze will get a breather if both Starc and Cummins come back in.

Cheers. I wasn't sure if he was right to go yet. Aus side is approaching the "aged" class tstl.

Yeah I think the whole "picking almost the exact same players as four years ago but mostly after their primes and in conditions that suit them less" thing has possibly made me overly pessimistic about their chances, but it doesn't sound good when I put it like that.

I reckon they'll sneak into the semis and then get smashed by England or India.

Yeah it's a bit hard to get much of an idea about most teams because they seem to play so little ODI cricket compared with past years. And the ODD comp here is basically an after thought so it isn't like a lot of younger blokes have many chances to make a name for themselves in the format. But some of these blokes are definitely on the downhill slide. It certainly won't be a vintage fielding outfit, that's for sure.

Maxwell's been fantastic since the 2019 WC; warner's been gun in ODI's over the past 12-18 months; smith's been great since the 2019 WC, zampa's averaging 21 with the ball, starc's been no worse in bilateral ODI's then he usually is, cummins has performed better than he did last WC cycle from memory, haze has been good, and marsh is in career best form across formats these last two years. Don't think any of the guys in this squad qualify as "past their primes" compared to 4 years ago.

Other than Zampa and Haze the rest of the older blokes are very good fielders though. Zampa bad enough to make up for it all on his own mind you

Yeah but they just won't be as quick as 5-10 years ago. If Stoinis plays he's bog average in the field too, as is MMarsh. At least one of them will play you'd reckon. If Inglis plays you'll have a keeper in the outfield, which is always terrible. Not sure how Matt Short goes in the field tbh.

Green is good, of course. He's worth 10-20 in the field.

It's just a shame his combined batting and bowling is worth -60 most games.

Do you think Travis Head will be replaced in the squad?
Ide say Marnus and green/Inglis's respective form will force them too. The latter two where the best options to bat 4 and neither have made any runs recently while marnus has.

My prefered option is to bin stoinis and keep head in if there's even a half chance he's fit before the tournament ends, but I doubt that happens.

Maxwell listed at 6 with green at 7 feels wrong on so many levels, hopefully that's a typo. It may seem like a minor thing but it's so wrong on so many levels that it boggles the mind.

Green still being in the team atm boggles the mind

Marsh in a crowd killing mood today it seems.
