Terrific knock from Rohit this. Get the impression it's not an easy deck to start on and he's played this beautifully really. Aside from Cummins last night, no one has really bowled poorly to him but he's batted brilliantly.

Time for nathan lyon to retire. being outshone by a guy near 15 years younger. the young off spinner is the only saviour for australia in this match.

Whatever it takes!!!
I think the wicket of Renshaw aside, it has been high quality cricket all around and usually it means the pitch has been pretty good. Good balls had to be bowled to get batsmen out and batsmen have had to work very hard for their runs. Reasonably sized outfield too and yet very fast, so there is good value for shots if you can time them well.

I honestly don't think, with a few exceptions, Aus have disgraced themselves so far. Not played to their standard certainly but mostly India have just been very, very, very good.
Think that is also the worry. When you play near your best and you are still chasing the game.

I wonder what happens if they get both Starc and Green back next game. They definitely need some variation in their spin attack but you can't really drop Murphy, I would think.

Not only did Renshaw's selection contribute nothing here, he is also injured already in the on the first day. One wonders exactly what selectors were thinking omitting your best batter? The good news for Head, is the diabolical performance and selection means he is virtually guaranteed to play in the 2nd test.

Australian batter Matthew Renshaw has been sent for precautionary scans after suffering a knee complaint ahead of day two of the Nagpur Test against India.

Renshaw, picked ahead of Travis Head for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener, was seen icing his right knee at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on Friday morning, with Ashton Agar fielding in his absence.

Yeah it's a difficult question because Murphy has bowled Lyon by a long margin so far. But we can't keep fielding a tail with basically 2 #10s and 2 #11s in it, even on that ground alone you have to get Starc in somehow, but Boland has been excellent too.

I guess they could go -

Warner
Khawaja
Marnus
Smith
Green
Carey
Agar
Starc
Cummins
Murphy
Lyon

Yeah I don't disagree tbh.

I expect the four man attack to get shown up a bit as the test goes on, especially if India makes Aus field well into tomorrow. Green at six would really have helped the balance of the attack - could have played Agar at eight and had three spinners. Although it means Boland would have missed out I guess.

Marnus and Smith were obviously the key wickets and were undone by some good bowling. I don't expect anyone expected Warner to do well and Khawaja copped a good one early. Only really Renshaw who played a howler - had the look of a shot from a fella who'd had the pads on for two days, not two hours.

Some good signs for Carey, Boland and Murphy. Cummins was a lot better today, as you'd expect. Would have been weird to see him bowl dross for two days in a row. Lyon has been solid too.

I would honestly bin Warner next test unless he makes a big score second dig and open with Head. Gives you another decent part time spinner and if he gets away against the quicks he'll be hard to stop. Different story facing spin first up. Won't happen though.

Head
Khawaja
Marnus
Smith
Handscomb
Green
Carey
Agar
Cummins
Murphy
Lyon

depending on the deck ofc

Hazlewood/Boland are the kind of bowlers you'd turn to when things aren't going your way. And things often tend to go against you in India.

The discipline they offer can frustrate the batsmen and make things happen for you.

Going with pace duo of Cummins and Starc can go in India's favour 8 out of 10 times.

TBF Cummins isn't exactly profligate by nature. Yesterday was easily the worst I've ever seen him bowl.

Disgraced? The game is still at the stage where a good session for either team can switch the match result.

Australia havent seemed 100 percent fully there though. They need something special.
