Have genuinely enjoyed watching this test. I am a neutral so not really concerned over who wins ,have just enjoyed the cricket. As I prefer test cricket just rather than one day stuff,it's been good to see two sides evenly called at this point.

Bradman could literally have got another 40 ducks and kept top spot for the next 40 innings on that list...
Yeah it's amazing.

Cool list to be on in general because in the post-Bradman range, so basically excluding people like Voges who just had a purple patch right at the start of their career, there's only 12 names on the list. Sutcliffe, Hobbs, Hutton, Smith, Barrington, Sobers, Hammond, Dravid, Tendulkar, Ponting, Sangakkara and Kallis. Not necessarily an exhaustive list of all the best batsmen in test history (no Gavaskar, Lara or Chappell for example) but it's certainly not a bad start.

I hesitate to bring this up, but if VVS really did bring up Phil Hughes then that's way, way, way worse than what Maxwell did.

From the Daily Mail so idk

“Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith, what example is he setting to his team? That’s very disappointing. You can sledge ... it’s fine, but not mocking someone who is injured, in pain,” Laxman said at tea on Saturday on the Star Sports coverage.

“I’ve never experienced that because when you are injured, you always care for the opposition player as well.

“Especially after what happened to Phil Hughes, everyone is concerned when someone gets injured.

“Whether he gets hit on the helmet or is injured, there is a concern.

“You play the game a hard way but the spirit of the game should be there. This is defying the spirit of the game.”
I fail to see what's so disgraceful about this?

Just don't bring it up. Ever. Like, people on that field were there, you know? There is nothing useful to be achieved by bringing it up.
he's not pulling Smith and Maxwell into a room and telling them this though.

He's just commentating that he thought we were now in an era where making fun of someone's injuries is not a done thing, given we've seen with recent events that cricket injuries can be a lot more serious than we thought.

hmmm i dunno i guess there's something of a difference between a shoulder injury, which didn't affect Kohli's batting, and actual death but that's just me

Fair enough man but at the same time there's absolutely no malice intended. Don't think Laxman deserves the kind of hate he's getting at the moment for an honest mistake. Anyways, this is a touchy topic and I'm out of my depth here so that's the last I'm going to say about it.

Well, he was speaking on context of injury and safety, so I get it. He could have used a different example but I don't really see how what he said was horrible or anything.

Oh I definitely don't think there was malice intended. But any point he possibly could have made about offensiveness is immediately lost by bringing it up. It's just too easy to read it (unfairly or otherwise) as "don't you care/remember about your mate that died"

Presumably the players (O'Keefe, Lyon, Warner) that happened to have participated in both the matches will never be able to separate the tragedy of both Virat Kohli's really minor shoulder injury and Philip Hughes dying in front of them

Like, now I'm using hyperbole, but dead set, if you need a ****ing picture drawn to explain why you basically shouldn't mention Hughes' name ever in this context and why it's not alright...I dunno man, I dunno

Like, put yourself in their situation. Imagine you heard about some talking head publicly using the death of a close friend in fairly traumatic circumstances to chide you over what is a fairly minor incident in an only tangentially related scenario.

I imagine most people would be fairly upset.

VVS didn't say anything disgraceful. it was just a bit lacking in tact and delicacy. Plus the Smith image is already #fakenews, and Kohli and maxy are practically bum-buddies so I don't see what the issue is..

I didn't say it was anything disgraceful, I just said it was a lot worse than the incident it was criticising.

But I will admit that I did have a hot spike of what-the-**** rage for a few seconds before looking at it more cooly.
