If I remember correctly, the pitch curator said it would be a fast bowler's pitch. lol If this is what he calls a fast bowler's pitch, prolly he will make a landing pit for triple jumpers if he is told to make a rank turner then. Harsha Bhogle described it perfectly when he said 'The spider looking vulnerable in it's own web!'.

Oh, by the way, I still can't get how this is a 'bad pitch'. There are only four types of pitches: batting friendly, bowler friendly, sporting pitch and dangerous track (should be and is banned for obvious reasons). I don't see a reason why a seaming pitch is called good but a dustbowl is called bad. I believe it would be just a different way to testing the batsmen's skills.
This is the spinning equivalent of the green seamer where you can barely tell where the pitch ends and the outfield begins. Those type of pitches are condemned as bad pitches as well.

A good pitch had these properties:

Day 1 will offer something for the quicks
Days 2 and 3 will be best for batsmen
Days 4 and 5 will start breaking up and offer something for the spinners.

A bad pitch had one or more of these properties:

Is breaking up on day 1
Offers inconsistent bounce from day 1/2 with some balls going through at ankle height.
Is a flat road that doesn't offer enough for the bowlers so that 40 wickets can realistically be taken over 5 days.
Is a treacherous green top that offers too much sideways movement for the bowlers.
Is sticky

The SCG is a good example of a turning pitch that favours spinners while still being a good pitch. This pitch is an example of a bad pitch since it's been breaking up since day 1 and has had inconsistent bounce with some balls jetting through at ankle height on day 2.

Great day for Aus... was bound to happen to India eventually if they kept preparing these extreme wickets and lose the toss.

But as a Saffa I`m conflicted... after hearing about India being no1 for a year now, and undefeatable at home it nice to see them fall to earth. But I can see the Aussie heads growing from here and I can`t stand that either....

It has helped the quicks though. Not as much as the spinners, but there's definitely something there. Lost of opportunities for reverse too since it's so dry and abrasive.

social's posting is insufferable at the best of times. Lets just grit our teeth and let him gloat until the test is over.

I wouldn't be too concerned. the players will get overconfident immediately and end up losing 3-1 comfortably.

A pitch is good if the game is entertaining. A pitch is bad if the game is boring. A pitch is dangerous if the ball bounces randomly and people get hurt.

Batting sides have to bat long enough to get to the reverse swing and bowling sides have to have bowlers who are good enough to bowl reverse swing late in the innings. Neither condition had happened yet this test. India's bowlers aren't good enough and their batsmen didn't bat long enough.

I mean, Smith has spend the last few hours showing that, with a little luck, you can bat on this deck if you grit your teeth and earn your runs. Far from easy, and he definitely had the aforementioned work, but he did it. When it comes a total lottery and result and skill become totally decoupled, that's when it's a bad pitch IMO.

yeah I'm fine with the pitch, and I naturally assumed Australia were over-reacting to the pitch when it was uncovered. it's not like SOK's effort was a repeat of Clarkeh's 6/9

Incredible day. Some notes:

1) SoK - Wow. What a way to announce who the best spinner in Australia is.

2) KL has a long way to go. To play that shot, in full knowledge that no specialist batsman is left, in full knowledge that he was the only batsman who looked like he would make a big score, to throw all that away, is just unacceptable.

3) Pujara got an absolute ripper. Kohli needs to tone down the self belief a bit. Starc and Haze opened India up.

4) SoK didn't look unplayable at all. KL threw his wicket away. Jadeja threw his wicket away. So did Umesh. Jayant was lazy. Jinks and Saha were proper wickets.

5) The only spinner who's looked unplayable is Jadeja. Ashwin got both Warner and Marsh due to his BigBrain. Great change of angle. Just slid those two balls in nonchalantly.

6) I don't know how much better India would do on a flat pitch since Australia's batting is clicking.

From what I saw, India just choked.
