Quite. Which is more than we can say for most of Australia's batsmen.
Yeah I've wondered this for a while. Should we pick the best 6 batsman in Australia (thinking Tests here) who can do the best against the strong Test bowling attacks or do we pick the six best who can make the most runs against weak opposition who we hardly play. If its the second option you play Phillip, if its the first option you don't.

What are you trying to say about Vinay Kumar and Ishant???
What do you mean? They are part of an ordinary attack on a good pitch to be batting.

Phil Hughes the man with twin centuries against the best bowling attack in the world?
Every dogg has its day. He played with gay abandon then. He has changed, hopefully one day he will get over the mental hurdle.

I wonder if the Big Show will come in next? Thinking yes.

Nah you pick Hughes either way. The fact that he's not a great player against good Test bowling attacks doesn't mean any other useless **** who you care to name is either.

As I've said before, the great thing about Hughes is that when he actually is comfortable with the bowling and the conditions, his concentration and ability to build an innings is second to none. He's also great at punishing bowlers who target his weakness and don't quite execute perfectly, meaning you do actually have to bowl well to him to dismiss him, and it's not particularly easy to do so. Yeah he'll have periods of consecutive low scores where he looks really bad and yeah in an ideal world he wouldn't be in the Test side right now, but he offers far more than any of the alternatives with his ability to convert starts and make telling contributions.

Surely this is just as a saying because it is without doubt not true.

I don't agree and that is fine. Against weaker attacks like Sri Lanka in Australia Phillip can handle this sort of situation very well, but he has massive question marks about his ability to convert starts and perform at an acceptable level against decent teams. Anyway, a decent contribution from him today.

Phil Hughes, the guy in his second last test match who made an 80 odd not out against the second best bowling line up in the world.

Looks like the Australians would have been better off taking the doubling at 30 overs. Will that come back to bite them?

I'm not denying that FFS. The alternative to picking a few batsmen with massive question marks over their ability to perform against the top sides is picking a team with only four (if you're being really generous..) batsmen in it. You've gotta pick someone and Hughes offers far, far more than the alternatives presently.

dermo

International Vice-Captain
in a world where people are offering Aaron Finch and Mathew Wade as legitimate batting options, we could do a lot worse than Hughes
