***Official*** Australia in India 2012/13

He had no choice. 2 down so going for a win was the only option. No point going from the draw from the outset just to lose the series 2-1 at best.

Overall. How many overs were lost for the match?

As for Sachin I have a feeling he will be picked for his experience and mentoring role for the SA tour. There is no way we can send a batting line-up with 6 inexperienced bats to face Steyn and Philander.
Despite the fact that India may actually have better batsmen than Sachin waiting in the wings ?

Truth is Sachin has been on the wane for a long time - if he can't get runs against NZ, England and Australia at home - how's he gonna get them away against South Africa ?

India are better off with Sachin retiring at the end of the Delhi test - you're almost certainly gonna lose in SA with or without Sachin. I'd rather it be without and blood a younger guy who you know will use that experience to be a better player in the future.

That's just it though, he's more likely to score in SA than at home, just the way he's been playing over the last few years you can just tell he doesn't like these dusty spinners where the ball doesn't quite come on the bat. Tendulkar has always preferred pitches where the ball comes on nicely (even if there is swing or bounce on offer).

I do hope he scores big at Dehli though, dude NEEDS a 100, it's been forever.

He failed miserably on India's tours in 2011 to England And Australia.

What's there to suggest that he can turn it around in South Africa ?
All the evidence suggests he's gone.

Why not blood a Rayudu or a Rohit Sharma and see what gives ? They may fail but hey its no worse than Tendulkar. WHo knows - you may strike gold with a youngster in much the same way that India did with Dravid at Lords in 1996.

uh, since when does averaging mid 30's = to "failed miserably"?

He looked (and averaged) A LOT worse against NZ and ENG at home than he did away against AUS and ENG

India v Australia, 3rd Test, Mohali, 5th day : We felt the pressure during chase - Dhoni | Cricket News | India v Australia | ESPN Cricinfo

The draw and NOT having Australia get even a sniff of a win was obviously on Dhoni's mind a lot more than a win.
Nah come on now, that is just being a sensible captain.

Dravid at The Oval 2007 vs. England was playing for a draw. And fair enough, 1-0 up in England, historic series win on the line, did not blame him.

Dhoni was not doing anything stupid to allow Australia a win. He never gave up on the win.

There is a world of difference.

**** jadeja's little innings pissed me off, hes looked so rubbish all series but then gets an opportunity to bat like its a t20, swings hard and he comes off looking like a hero, such rubbish cricket. maxwelling to perfection.

He was our best batsman in the first 2 tests (where the test series was lost). After that Kohli stepped up, but series was gone by then.

Patto to come back for Starc, obviously.

Am the only one who wouldn't be annoyed at Doherty making way for MJ? At least Johnson can bat a bit and might take the odd 7fer.

No choice? How about choosing to try and prevent a whitewash.....

It's pretty simple - India will not win a test series away against Oz, SA or Eng until they find a fast bowler and Ishant has the most potential of any in the last 10-20 years so that is why they have stuck with him
Is this a serious post? Zaheer, Irfan, Sreesanth, etc etc. Surely you are not saying Ishant has at any stage bowled or even looked better than them? If potential is banging it in at 140k with little movement or accuracy then sure.

P.s. England 2007 anyone?

Edit: Forgot about ye old warhorse Srinath :P

Mate, he was already a hero before his cameo due to his exploits with the ball. He's throwing up 70km/h balloons and the top order is ****ting themselves.

Except for Starc though. WAG he is.

Australia's best chance in the Ashes, if at all, is to latch onto the one game where England are caught with their pants down, and then play the ugliest, most attritional cricket in history. Get the young bowlers fit, BAN them from all useless competition in the lead up, and stop shaving for a few months.

Even after the win, the fact is that Dhoni's innings while he was batting with Sachin was completely dire. He was 4(23) at one point with only four overs to go and almost run a ball needed. You could see by their running (and Sachin's run out - which was him succumbing to pressure created by his partner). Did you watch that innings live - because I can't believe that you weren't completely shaking your head as that was unfolding.
Dhoni was trolling seriously.
