doesn't mean an automatic drop tbf. there's certainly bits of this which don't entirely add up, even if they should have just ****ing done it.
I dunno know, not following coaches orders or team tasks is usually a sure fire way to get yourself on the outer

Of all of them, Pattinson is the one with the worst case for staying in the team. If you're trying to build a team culture you can't let people off just because they're your best player.
Of course. I agree that rules should not be different for the star performers. Maybe I should have phrased it better

So if this punishment fits the crime then I'm sure you will agree that Arthurs contract should be torn up if his team loses this test
They haven't been punished because they did a bad job, they didn't even attempt the job. So I think the punishment fits the crime. And if Arthur doesn't show up for 3rd test, yes he should be sacked.

So it's better to be incompetent than lazy?

Funny thing is that he admits Watson and Johnson are thoroughly professional

Once we could laugh at sitcom that is Pakistani cricket management. Now we are doing our spin off series. I can't see how the players not doing this is worse than the coach setting it in the first place and dishing out such a stupid and harsh punishment. My word the morale over there must be absolutely toilet. I mean who goes out of their way to set traps disqualifying players from selection? What if someone is caught reading a porno with a torch under his blankets? And then there were 12... Arthur needs to be sacked for this. On the spot. Players reinstated and and told they'll be assessed on form. That alone should give them a shiver.

i don't think they view the task as that important. they view it as a task, and 4 players didn't bother doing it.
As I said, I have sympathy with them because it's so obviously a BS thing to do.

If they'd have been instructed to (say) report for training early and not bother because they were out on the sauce the previous eve, then yeah, that's maybe a line-drawer (as Arthur, being an adherent of management speak masturbation, would probably put it), but to leave out one's best bowler (and it's not even an especially close call just now) for this is just crap, tbh.

It's treating grown men like kids.

I've just finished Atherton's autobiography and he mentions Graham Thorpe as someone who was second to none in the work he put in on his own game but who had no truck with pointless martinet orders from the management. On a Windies tour (and just before a test) the management sent out a three line whip for the squad to attend a party on a boat for some local noteable wearing their touring blazers.

Thorpe duly turned up late in shorts, flipflops and a Bermuda shirt.

Yes, he disobeyed an order, but it didn't make him a worse player. Same principle here, IMHO.

That was me when I read the cricinfo article.

I must say though that I agree completely with what Arthur is doing, even though it seems a bit comical. We need to get a good attitude going. And the players need to be named and shamed for their lack of effort.

The fact Micky Arthur's spent so much time around the team and he still thinks Watson and Johnson can write is an indictment on how much attention he's been paying.

I think the issue here is that losses like the last Test come through a lack of application. The coach then gives them a simple task and again, they don't have the application and discipline to do it.

Part of team sport is doing little things which might seem insignificant to some but are actually the foundation of the success that teams are built on. I dare say the 'homework' was as much to see who is willing to do whatever they need to to build a successful environment.

Yes it seems silly and pathetic as a task, but jeez, to not do something so simple - that is purely a lack of discipline, and waaayyyyy dumber than the task it self. Would have taken up to 3 minutes to do.

Says more about those 4 players and why we are at where we are at than it does about Arthur.

Well said.

What would be funny is India losing the match even after so many key players are dropped. And knowing our batting, that is perfectly possible
