Huss came in when things were going smooth, Paine started in the last half hour against a hooping ball with Zaheer in full flow then had to start again this morning.Big difference imo.
Very true, Paine was in straight up survival mode, whereas Hussey just couldn't middle anything.

Indeed. Lots of praise for him yesterday and while he bowled well and while he he was unlucky not to pick up Watson, I still don't really rate him. There's just not enough to him. He's exceptionally accurate but he doesn't get big turn, he doesn't have much variety, he doesn't drift the ball and he bowls with a very simplistic plan for a spinner.

Given what he is he's going to have to bowl incredibly well every time he plays to have any success. He's going to bowl really well for no return a lot, IMO.
One feels that he was fortunate to come up a lot against Watson and Hussey, and not against more of Ponting and Clarke. But Johnson and Paine seem to have him sussed out.

Might be an incredibly dumb idea, but if Paine really succeeds with the bat over this series, perhaps he could slot into the no.6 position instead of North and Haddin back into no.7 with the gloves.

Definitely good enough to - once he begins to convert his starts.

So are they taking it or not? May as well Zaheer is easily their best bowler.

edit: Didn't know about Sharma. That sucks.

Have always been a Paine fan but his batting is becoming more and more over-rated with each coming post. :p

Lots of middle order batsmen in Australia better than Paine who, if he isn't keeping, is more suited to opening himself as well. He's batted really well here but he hasn't done nearly enough in domestic cricket to justify that, even if he hits a ton here (which, given his conversion rate and the fact that Aus are 7 down, is extremely unlikely anyway).

I don't get wanting to play keepers as specialist batsman. If his batting is better than Haddin's than by all means get him...but bring in Hughes, Khawaja, Klinger or Smith in place of North, don't play 2 keepers....

I feel the bowlers have done okay here. Not excellent, not woeful like in the SL series either.
Zaheer in for Mithun and Sharma only bowling 7 overs will always help that. Just need to get Sree in for the next Test and the attack will actually be Test standard. :p
