*Official* Australia in England

I'm thinking he's probably not first in line for the test backup, but being in the depths of the Australian winter, they are probably looking around for conditioned players. ie players already touring with the limited overs squad, or playing league or county cricket in England. It could be a good opportunity for him nonetheless.

Is George playing anywhere at the moment ?

Hilfenhaus averages 30 in test cricket which is ordinary. Asif & Steyn are miles ahead of all fast bowlers currently playing.
He has a first class average of 28.97, and that has been wrecked through having to bowl with pain for so much of his career. When he's been fit, he has ripped through everything. He's more talented than Johnson imo.

who cares about FC average  when Hilfenhaus averages below 25 in test cricket, then we will talk.

George just finished performing well for the Australia A side in the 4 day games, now he is back at the centre of excellence training/playing.

He would be in the selectors minds for absolute sure, they flew him over to New Zealand when there were injury concerns.

Flying Hilfenhaus in is a bit dodgy so soon after his comeback from injury. Could work if Smith is at 6 like in Patto's team though.

George isn't too far away from a call up you'd think. Wouldn't mind him getting a series in England under his belt ahead of the 2013 Ashes.

Called it

Knew he'd play for Australia the first time I saw him bowl on a flat MCG pitch in searing heat. However, might be one season too soon for the kid.

Good selection. Hilfenhaus would have been a foolish decision considering he has played about three games in the past 12 months.

George is one of those bowlers who everyone is impressed by on viewing him. Another season of Shield cricket may be more beneficial, but he isn't what you would call "raw". Unless major injury occurs, it looks very likely he will have a massive career ahead.

The pity is that Hilf obviously the better option for Eng conditions and George for Australian ones, and it might turn out both play exactly the opposite.

Sadly, an injury probably had better odds than being a participating member of the Test series for Rhino. So ****, gutted for the bloke.

Pete George replacing him is interesting but inevitable considering the injury list. Ideal time to play Smith as a bowler, tbh.

Bit worried by this;

A week ago George was returning to the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane to continue working on the outswinger he has been developing with Craig McDermott and Troy Cooley
Shade of McGrath's early matches and we all know how well that went.

That's not the point. The point I'm making is that, in my opinion, if he WERE fit, he would have that sort of record at present. And should he GET fit, he will rise up those bowling rankings very quickly. He scares me more than any of the others.

He was quite excellent in England bit desperately unlucky. The most consistently solid bowler on either side TBH.

I dont believe in this rubbish. Show me the numbers. Hilfenhaus averages in 30s because he is ordinary. Batsmen fear bowlers who averages below 25 like Asif & Steyn not someone who averages 30+ with S/R of almost 60.

sometimes Cricket is not to be seen through the numbers Hilf does not have a sample size large enough which can be judged just by numbers even a fool who watched last year Ashes can vouch he was the fast bowler of the series

No doubt Hilfenhaus was the best bowler in Ashes but he is not the bowler many people claim. SA is ideal place for fast bowlers and Hilfenhaus averaged 52 with S/R of 100+ in his last tour there.
