Paine is a ****ing overrated dickhead.

Absolutely disgusted with him trying to **** around with reverse sweeps. Has he been doing this stupid **** all series?

Nah, usually he's gotten out for 10-20 with a SR of less than 60 without facing the spinners.

In a roundabout way, I am glad Bresnan won it for England in the third game. If Paine was batting like this in a deciding game, I'd be going for the wrists instead of just venting on some thread on the internet.

Seriously though, what other options are there for the opening slot alongside Watto? A loss today won't be bad in the sense that a 3-2 scoreline covers up how completely **** a handful of Australian players performed this series. Look at the strike rates of Paine, White, Ponting. All at or below 80. Somehow Clarke is going to escape criticism for this thanks to his two big knocks, one a momentum killer and the other in a dead rubber.

Flipside, Australia is doing to Bresnan what Ireland did to Hopes. He hasn't really done anything to warrant being dropped for mine.

One of those wickets where I reckon fans of the batting team were happier to see it, tbh. 54 off 90 shocking. No other word for it.

What's Manou's one day batting like? Presume Pomersbach still on the outers after his well-documented piss related woes?

Eh, I feel that the first Clarke innings was harshly done by. Yeah he was terrible for the last 10, but at least he got to the last 10 which is more than can be said of basically everyone else.

You want the truly awful Clarke innings, 3rd ODI has it. Actually feel that if Clarke had played that innings in the 1st ODI we would've ended up with that score first up (we lost anyway, but 210 on that pitch would've been truly embarassing)

Here's some optimism, we're heading towards a total of like just over 200. England really hasn't shown they're entirely capable of chasing that down.

Long bow.

Re the second opener, there's Haddin and Marsh, both of who I'd like to open for us.

I feel like I'm forgetting about someone else too...

I'd kind of want someone much more aggressive than Watto. If anything I'd like to see Watto bat deep into the innings like he did in the finals of the Champions Trophy. Haddin has that aggression, but I thought he was injured?

Surely after this, Haddin's tenure might have been stretched out a bit more.

Voges opened in one game for you apparently. But by shunting Paine from the top of the order it just means you'll have to bat him somewhere else.
Just deal with it for the minute and then he's a straight swap for Haddin when fit. Ideally you need a better backup keeper.

Saves the hassle of reshuffling the order when Haddin comes back.

Marsh is looking pretty terrible as well, but he has more of an excuse one feels...

Just as I say that. Positive jinxing FTW (I hope)

Swanneh's not going to bowl out again, is he? Ridiculous really, considering that he's gone for 3-an-over and picked up two wickets (admittedly two wickets owing something to bad batting, but still). Doesn't make much sense. Still, we can keep Australia down to a chaseable 220/230-ish score hopefully.

I typed out a post about Marsh's SR and just before I posted he hit 10 off those 2 deliveries. ****.

Super use of the batting power play, it must be said. Played themselves in to have two set batsmen when it was taken.

What a brilliant shot. Turned what looked a very good over from Anderson into another 11 run over.
