Duncan Spencer bowled one of the quickest spell I have ever seen (though only on TV) back in the very early 90s. A real slingy action.

I think 99% of the Duncan Spencer mentions on here have been by either me or you :)

What about Wayne Holdsworth? I never saw him bowl but when he came to England in 1993 he was billed as north of rapid though we never got a chance to see it.
I had the profound displeasure of opening the batting against Wayne Holdsworth at school, with a two piece ball on astroturf, and a change of undies required by yours truly.

See, I'm not entirely convinced that these guys would be as quick as Tait. We'd be mentioning Nannes in the same group as these guys if he wasn't being clocked, yet he's been proven to be a little big slower than Tait. Reckon most of those guys would be around the Nannes speed.
Too hard to be sure without a similarly calibrated speed gun, really. Even then, had Spencer or others been clocked years ago and their speeds slightly short of Tait's, it'd still be questionable to call Tait definitively faster. For all we know, Spencer had a CC game starting the next day and had to pace himself. Plus he was pretty young there, still developing physically. Tait is probably at peak speed right now and can just go flat out.

Given the same conditions Tait bowls in (4 overs at a time, permission to go all out, no need to worry about backing up for a FC/Test match), would they be as quick? Reckon it'd be close.

That said, it's all academic. As I've said before, north of 145Km/h, the difference in reaction time is so little that all a batsman sees is ****ing fast.

Not that it's of much surprise, but James Hopes has been useless this series. Averaging 16 with the bat and 160 with the ball. Can't stand him in the Australian team. I appreciate that he might do well from time to time, but he has not and will never be worthy of a spot in the Australian team.

Indeed... with Smith in, I can't see why they can't play the 4 quick men and do a switch with Johnson.

EDIT: What will be more interesting is when Hauritz comes back.

Not at all surprisingly, the point of the discussion was how extremely fast bowlers simply cannot keep up the speed in long spells or in FC matches, like Tait.
I guess this proves how special Lee and Shoaib were that they were able to have quite a bit of success at the test leval.

**** me, score one for Goughy!
Indeed. Great YouTube find, and well done the chap who recorded, edited and uploaded it.

That is a seriously quick spell of bowling. Batsmen completely at sea, often about 3 yards late for the ball.

Excellent demonstration from Viv too of the importance of keeping your head still and your eye on the ball (even on a yahoo across the line)

Hope he doesn't come back tbh.
I do. Outstanding ODI bowler and rapidly becoming a very good offie in tests. Smith is promising but as we saw yesterday can't really do the middle-overs holding role that Hauritz excels at. Wasn't a problem yesterday because we had a large total to defend and Harris/Tait were excellent.

TBH I reckon we should drop Hopes for Smith permanently, and then either bring back Hauritz or Johnson or both and drop one of the current 3

What johnson at 7 that is a joke he averages 10,9 times out of 10 in one dayers he fails with the bat.
Hauritz at 7 again joke,he comes in the end has a slash don't expect him to carry the burdern at 7.
Either play 7 batsmen or smith or hopes at 7 anythig else is a complete joke.
How many times has johnson failed with the bat last season ever single time, johnson at 7 some sorta joke.

Smith is a genuine world class batsman, would slot right in at 7 for them.

Also just quietly, actually no, just loudly, can we get the **** rid of Bresnan already? He's not up to it.

Most profound stat there is 900+ deliveries faced per six scored since 2007. These days you'd be hard pressed to sit through a day of test cricket without one six being hit, either from a lusty upper order blow or some lower order slapping. Going 150 overs between clearing the ropes in LO cricket?

Oh and having a SR lower than Shiv in the same period. Weewah.

More myth than fact tbh. Went at more than 5.5 this series.
