That would only have been 1 run and would've changed the game completely because who was on strike at the time.
What about Langer's run short the other day as well.

The use of technology in this match:

Pietersen "caught down the legside" - Technology inconclusive (we didn't see the angle that usually sorts these dismissals out ie. the view from behind)

Gillespie LBW - Technology inconclusive (Television looked dubious, Hawkeye said out)

Bell dismissal - Technology inconclusive (TV angle from behind gave some suggestion of a nick, Snickometer said zilch)

Pietersen dismissal - Technology says NOT OUT

Kasparowicz dismissal - Technology inconclusive (Definitely hit his glove off the bat but quite possibly hit the shoulder of the bat first)

Seems like a recipe for little more than even slower over-rates to me 8-)
Agreed, although on the Pietersen dismissal snicko suggested it hit the glove, while on camera it appeared not to.

When Bell actually bats poorly and get shimself out, then maybe I'll agree.
So 4 unconvincing innings that have all culminated in low scores dont count against him?

Why werent you an international selector when I was playing.

Ive moaned as much about the standard of umpring in this series as anyone but the fact is that the results of neither test to date have been affected by the numerous mistakes.

Better team won at Lords.

Better team won at Edgbaston.

Better get some sleep before Thursday.

they werent out...the pressure of shane warne was too much for the weak koertzen.
It must have been, because he wasn't bowling to either of them.... :D

OIn another point, benefit of the doubt refers to the umpire - not us - so if he had no doubt that either were out then there's none to give. Pieterson's was one of the rare cases where we see two bad decisions even themselves out in the one innings in my opinion...20 less runs would have been handy for us in the end, but then you never know how the game would have played out had he been given on 0, so it's pretty much irrelevant.

Good point. Forgot about that odd incident.

Imagine if they had lost by 1 run.
1 run would've been a fitting result I reckon.. The match was probably the best test match I've ever seen. I don't feel ripped off, or upset, I feel happy for the game of cricket. That was 3 days of bliss. There were more twists than a blockbuster movie.

For me the match was won by Giles just as much as Flintoff. The guy was getting bagged by the media all week and I thought he was ordinary to, but put him on the right pitch at the right time and he's a match winner.

Wouldn't have happened because the one-short decision was correct; Langer's bat was on the line.

Same here. Same for the series really; if England win the Ashes and the rest of the Tests have been like the first two, what true cricket fan could find any complaint in that?

wow what a game, this makes the series a bit more interesting for a while until the eventual Aus win. Well fought game, cricket at its best.

Has anyone mentioned the leg-bye that was incorrectly disallowed because Billy Bowden ruled that no shot had been played by Shane Warne?

Yep that would have altered the match completely tho as the batsman on strike would have changed etc etc . Who knows what would have happened

You could debate over the one short signal by Rudi against Justin Langer that, in my view, shouldn't have been called...

EDIT: I should really read the previous few posts before posting - this seems to have come up a few times already!

i dear hope a repeat of the AUS/WI 93 doesn't happen, in Australia get within one run and loose now that would be an anti-climax

Kaspa not out ??

"..Enhanced television replays indicated Michael Kasprowicz's right hand was not in contact with the bat when Steve Harmison's final delivery brushed his glove on the way through to wicketkeeper Geraint Jones.

Although nobody could justifiably criticise New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden for noticing the technicality amid the flurry of movement and cauldron of pressure that accompanied the final act, it did provide a suitably intriguing end to a memorable game. "

haha yeah i heard about this, it certainly looked out on TV, which is good enough for me, there were worse decisions in the match.

dont complain though, it makes the series far more interesting ;)

Whatever it takes!!!
What a match! I loved it. The best test since the Eden GArdens one and the Barbados one. Hats off to Lee, Warney and Kasper for making it this close and hats off to England for dominating Australia for most of the game... Not too many teams do that these days.

Is it good enough for our CW Warnie ? ;) Seriously, I agree it was a great match and it does make the series interesting. Let's see if Aus bounce back from this or Eng gain enough confidence from this to win the ashes. :)
