Forrest was only picked because of that thought. Bailey is 2nd in line probs. There's not many middle order batsman who have put up repeat good seasons. Even Forrest hasn't really. Hell Smith's probably 3rd in line.

Serious question for you Aussies, seeing as there are question marks over the make up of the test batting line up and probably 2 slots to come available soon anyway when Ponting and Hussey retire what are the chances of Bailey or Forrest getting a test chance in the near future. Never having seen them play first class cricket I have no idea whether they would be anywhere near up to it.
I shudder at the thought of either Bailey or Forrest in the Test line up. I don't think either is up to international standard - in any form of the game.

Why are they over here in England then? Are the Aussie young batting stocks so seriously weak now that such average batsmen make it into the national side?

Serious question, not a wind up.

Yeah pretty much. As above, there's just not many people putting up repeat seasons. Nic Maddinson and Chris Lynn had good seasons the season before last, last season they were so bad you'd think they were quota players.

yeah the batting stocks are very weak, but at the same time I think a good deal of people wouldn't want Forrest as the next-in-line for tests. The bottom line is though there are only a handful of players who have FC records better than someone like Forrest, and most of them have already been trialled and have had there fair share of problems (e.g. Khawaja, Hughes, Marsh, North, Smith etc.). And then there are others who are on the older side like Rogers and Dussey. There will surely be a period where our test batting will be really poor in the next year or so, because Ponting/Hussey will be gone and quite possibly a third position might be up for grabs as well (depending on how Cowan goes). The likes of Hughes and Khawaja really need to get their act together asap.

On a unrelated point, I had totally forgot about him, but why the hell isn't Voges part of this OD team? Ridiculous.

I do think Voges should be considered for test cricket more than he is, I've never really rated him, but he gets results

Voges is actually in England atm as well, and seems to be in decent form going by his results...I just don't understand.

Performed in his last ODI match too, even if no-one actually wanted him picked for that

Now you know how we felt during the 90s.

I'd like to see Woakes play tomorrow on his home ground - even if Anderson is fit, he could come in for Broad or Bres - but I'm not sure how much of a match there's going to be. The forecast, needless to say, isn't too bright.
