Who was the bowler at the time?FaaipDeOiad said:That is one of the most absurd series of events I have ever seen on the cricket field. What the hell was going on?
Aftab Ahmed edges a full toss on to his boot, it flies up and Gilchrist catches it a metre or so off the ground. The only doubt is whether it hit the boot or the ground, so the umpires call for a replay.
The replay shows at a simple glance that the ball came clean off the boot and that it was out, but no decision is given. After what felt like about 10 minutes of delay, the third umpire inexplicably turns on the green light and the batsmen celebrate a let off. The Australian players look completely bewildered since they would have all known it was out and that it would have showed on the replay, so Ponting walks over to Dar and Howell and presumably asks them what the hell is going on, at which point they get back on the walkie-talkies, talk to the third umpire for about 30 seconds and then give the batsman out.
I repeat - what the hell?
Well, I think the old gyppo's done really well to come back the way he has done following his mauling in England last year.Dizzy #4 said:When Warne gets a wicket, he turns out to be the pick of the lot, yet when a Dizzy or McGrath gets 3 or 4 wickets, it's just meh
I can understand the effect that sort of threat would have on anyone.superkingdave said:it was the thought of having to go to Yorkshire that spurred him on to get back in the side.
So how come Hussey (who's played the same number of Tests as Symonds) is at 9 then?age_master said:you need to play a reasonable amount of cricket to move up in those as well, which wouldn't help.
because he averages like 70 with the bat?marc71178 said:So how come Hussey (who's played the same number of Tests as Symonds) is at 9 then?
Ponting wants Warne to hit 700 wickets as fast as possible, get him the 100 in a year and all that, Stupid Ponting!FaaipDeOiad said:When was the last time a frontline bowler took 3 wickets in a brief opening spell and never came back again, in an innings that lasted over 50 overs? Quite unbelievable. I suppose as long as Bangladesh were bowled out for a small total it's fair enough, but Ponting's refusal to use Gillespie again at any point in the day even with Warne struggling and MacGill bowling 20 odd overs on the trot is strange.
But you just claimed that you have to play a lot of games to be highly ranked, and Hussey hasn't but is.age_master said:because he averages like 70 with the bat?
is this on any newspaper?, I am surprised by the "Ponting then asked the umpire"- was this a polite onehowardj said:I reckon what happened with the disputed catch was that the on-field umpires agreed that the ball had been edged, but sought the view of the 3rd umpire as to whether the ball bounced. The 3rd umpire then ruled then ruled ''not out", which the on-field umpires thought was a ruling based on the view that the ball bounced.
Ponting then asked the on-field umpires why the 3rd umpire ruled 'not out', and then they asked the 3rd umpire. The 3rd umpire stated that he thought the ball carried, but was not edged. However, because the on-field umpires were only asking whether the ball had carried, the batsman was, in the end, given out.
Just speculation

But Hussey has played a lot of games at Pura Cup/County level, and done very well in those. That, as well as the brilliant start he's made to his test career is why he's rated so highly.marc71178 said:But you just claimed that you have to play a lot of games to be highly ranked, and Hussey hasn't but is.
Didn't know ICC Ranking considered the runs made in Pura Cup/County level.cameeel said:But Hussey has played a lot of games at Pura Cup/County level, and done very well in those. That, as well as the brilliant start he's made to his test career is why he's rated so highly.
