Symonds and Hussey have both played ten tests, both in the Australian middle order, often together against the same bowlers. Hussey finds himself 9th in the world ratings. Symonds is #100. Explain that.
Symonds is crap, whilst Hussey can bat?

3 spinners? WTF? At least Jacques is playing.

On another note, damn England. All because of them, everyone is obsessed with this 5-bowler idea now. :) Even the world champions want to copy them.

Clark must have something wrong aswell because there's no way they would play Lee ahead of him with Lee's apparent fitness problems. They even had the option of Bracken and Johnson so Lee must have opted to play and Ponting obviously want to win the test. I will never say this but I think they should have played Symonds instead of Warne. Not only does it give more depth to the batting, you then have the option of a third spinner AND a third seamer.

The reason Clark was dropped instead of Lee would be the batting. Warne and Lee are batting at 7 and 8 in this team, and if you dropped Lee you'd have Gillespie batting at 8 and probably Stuart Clark at 9, which is a pretty shocking tail. Dropping Clark means they can keep the batting strength of Lee, and still play 3 spinners.

Leaving aside this game for the moment, left-field prediction for the next one. I think Australia might well rest or drop (or omit due to a niggle) Lee or Clark for the next game, and pick Dan Cullen as a third spinner.
:p

Anyway, I like the call. Looking forward to watching Cullen bowl, and it'll be good to see Jaques get a game too.

Colin Miller opened the bowling with spin?
I don't remember the game offhand, it's possible that he bowled some mediums to start up, but I'd say he probably did yeah. The SCG usually turns, and it did especially during the late 90s, and England were seen to be weak against spin.
